Otakon '08 Update: Day 2

Aug 11, 2008 17:55

So today was awesome. Just got in after managing to watch almost two episodes of Gurren Lagann (episodes 6 and 7, dammit we didn't get to 8 because they started almost half an hour late). I am sooooo tired. Please excuse all typos for this reason.

So the highlights of today were pretty much this: I got to lead around my friend Mel, who was Tobi from Naruto and thusly had that orange spiral-y mask with one eye hole and couldn't navigate worth a crap. We went to the Dealer's Room and I got a that pretty dress-thing I was talking about. The price was higher, but hey. It's black with pretty blue embroidery and it's also sparkly. I wanted to get a little Gurren Lagann card box (I hope they still have them) and a pair of yellow lense goggles that I can easily alter to be Jack Spicer goggles, but the Dealer's Room closed at 6, which was unexpected to say the least.

So we almost went to the Masquerade, but saw how long the line was and went back to hang in Artist's Alley. There we ate dinner (thoughtfully provided by Gretchen's mom in the form of turkey sandwiches, chips, and chocolate chip cookies) and got to join in on dancing when the Ghostbuster started his pack playing music. We joined in on Carmelldansen (someone was like 'OMG TOBI AND DEIDARA' when they saw Gretchen and Mel dancing next to each other), sat out for the Numa Numa dance, and then Gretchen and Mel joined in on the ChaCha Slide. I got a picture of a really good Cytomander and a older!Simon after the "dance floor" cleared. That marked the first time ever I've asked someone if I could take their picture.

I also got a cute little bat plushie and some guy (Cookie Man, we called him) gave us chocolate cookies with white chocolate chips. They were SO GOOD. He said he lived in North Carolina and his power got cut off, but he still brought 7 batches of cookies, even though it wasn't half of what he wanted to bring. He had wanted to bring several cakes as well, but couldn't. This guy seriously deserves a medal. Honestly.

Mel and Gretchen completed a quest for these guys at an out of the way little booth. They danced the 'Shipoopi' dance instead of the one they were supposed to. The guys at the booth said it was okay because it ended in ';poopi'. They got prizes. A cardboard ring from a used roll of tape, which was apparently '+30 Underwater Breathing', went to Mel for her affinity for fish-men. A 'Beard In A Cup' which was a small gelatin cup of some flavor went to Gretchen.

I also saw (and got pictures of) another Captain Hammer and Dr. Horrible. This time it was two people together cosplaying them, so they posed with poor Dr. H getting punched and put in a headlock by Captain Hammer. And there was a Jesus carrying a cross. I kid you not. And while waiting for Gurren Lagann to start, Gretchen and Mel went to the bathroom and came back with a lost Itachi cosplayer. We seem to be adopting cosplayers every day. Yesterday we found Nana, a Halloween Sora (who today was Yoruichi)and today we found our Itachi (whose name I never knew, but who apparently drew Gretchen a picture and signed it with a DevArt account name, so we'll find her).

All in all, today was good. I'm hoping to find one more Dr. Horrible tomorrow to make this weekend complete. I also plan on buying that Gurren Lagann car-box, a pair of yellow-lensed goggles, and maybe a pillow or a few more yaoi.

otakon, fun stuff
