Kitty goodness!

Today, we got a kitten! As a gift to Tom and I, Sheldon arranged everything with the landlords (who had previously been against having any sort of pets in the house) and got their permission. He also took care of all the paperwork and paid the fees associated with adopting an animal, so all that was left for me to do was to go down to the shelter with him and pick out a cat.

It may not seem like such a big deal, unless you understand just how much both Thomas and I love cats. I think Sheldon is more of a dog person, so it was sweet of him. ^_^

Anyway, the kitty itself is a black tabby... at first glance he appears to be all black (black like a ninja!), but he's actually got stripes if you look closely, and a fine dusting of lighter fur. He's soft and fluffy... and so tiny. Probably about six or seven weeks old.

He's a needy little bastard, too... really playful and vicious, as kittens tend to be (his catnip penguin has died many times over already), but affectionate. Likes to be scratched and sleep in laps. He's enjoying exploring the house (especially climbing the stairs), but won't go too far from where we're all sitting. And he starts to panic when he thinks we're leaving him... poor thing must be traumatized from living in the pound for what I can guess has been his whole life. I practically had to let him take a shower with me, as he began his pitiful mewing as soon as I shut him out of the bathroom. I'm guessing he'll grow out of all that, but it's his first day, and he's still really scared.

Also, I'm guessing he's never really had room to run and play before, as his previous home was a cage, and he hasn't quite got the hang of running yet. He tears down the hallway, can't get any traction on the hardwood floor, and goes tumbling. So cute. ^_^

Yes, I know, I'm a dork. I imagine lots of pictures will follow.

In much less interesting news, I finally got my final grades. Pleasantly surprised does not even begin to cover the intense feeling of relief I got from seeing them. So happy!

Tomorrow, I must clean like a mofo.
