"Although eating honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called" Winnie-the-Pooh, so simplistic and yet so profound :)
I mention this quote because I am really really really looking forward to Christmas. Christmas this year means four days off work, all of which will be spent with Ilya (whoo! *small fanfare*) since his Mom has upheld her Christmas tradition and gone abroad (to Chile this year) so he won't be going home. It also means lots of family visits, most notably my sister and Zac who will be staying for about five days (yay!) but lots of Aunts and Uncles too. I shall probably be shattered on Christmas Day since Paul has threatened to drag us out of bed at 9 and I don't think I'll be able to adjust my sleeping pattern quite so dramatically in only two days. Nevertheless, I'm sure I won't mind too much since I'm very excited about the prospect of watching everyone else open their presents (my own probably won't be all that exciting. Useful, but not exciting). And I can catch up on sleep in the afternoon before the obligatory board games. Ilya has maintained his tradition of asking for something that only a middle aged man would ask for. This year it's bed sheets :) but I have endeavoured to get him something fun as well. It must be said that half the reason we maintain this tradition is the fun you get from watching other people's reactions. I was considering buying him a porn DVD as well for pretty much the same reason, but then decided against it. Maybe another time :D
I still have loads of stuff to do before Christmas though. By the end of the week I need to have my visa application sent off to Ecologia. Fortunately all the necessary documents have materialised at just the right time, so I only need to get some photocopies done before I send it all off. Should have that completed by Thursday, and good riddance! It's made me realise just how close the trip is now, and I really want to get a move on with lesson plans, but I won't get chance anytime soon what with being so busy. Also this week I have to give my room a very thorough clean, acquire some Christmas cards for family, research deals for flights, and finish making something which will be left unidentified for now. Ilya has nicely offered to help me with lesson plans though, so maybe we will find some time over the break. And I have lots of holiday booked off for January.
Am really feeling the urge to make борщ, but now probably isn't a good time since we're gonna end up with loads of leftovers that need consuming next week... sigh.
To those of you who have sent cards: Thankyou very very much. And Claire, if you're reading this, it was really good to hear from you - I'm glad everything is going well over there :)
