DAW! I like his slow transition into a Person Who Smiles. He looks so effing delighted about having his ears flicked. His life must be going OK at last; hurrah! \o/

Aw! Were things going badly for him? I thought he had a very good season w/Auxerre, helped get them into Europe and all?

I don't actually know if his gloomy countenance is/was a reflection of his circumstances, but he certainly never used to smile. He was one of the spooky Triplets of Glum along with Alex Curtean and Florin Costea: their faces are similar and they always look(ed?) funereal. If he's moving away from his siblings (and playing well, too), that's got to be a good thing. (Must find out more about him now...)
