* I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity.
* Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
* Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions
1. How did you get into gaming?
Well, other than being taught to play cribbage and pinochle at an early age, I guess my real gamer introduction was in middle school. Do you remember Raman? He introducted me to RPGs, namely D&D and Top Secret. I think he ran sister M and I through an adventure when I was in like 7th or 8th grade using Top Secret. Then I joined a regular Dragon Quest campaign in college thanks to
tlatoani. And from there hobby board games were a short leap, into which I was certainly helped by
illyaa.
2. How did you and your best friend meet and become close?
Well, I am not sure who I identify as my current best friend. Which I am kind of sad about. If you mean my high school best friend, we met in middle school; I believe we were both on the volleyball team when she was in 8th and I was in 7th grade. Her mom being a teacher instead of, say, a world-famous heart surgeon or a member of the Supreme Court of the State of Michigan or a Detroit Tiger, or a descendant of Jimmy Hoffa, as other parents of kids at my school were, we could identify with each other. Becoming close was due to movie day/nights at her place. We always got Little Ceasar's "garbage can" pizza (everything on it except anchovies) and would watch movies whenever I slept over. She gave me a real movie education. Well, I guess after a while there were descent Chinese restaurants not far away, but it was LC pizza as the prototype.
3. If you knew as a high school freshman what you know now, would you do anything differently with your life?
It depends. If you could guarantee that I would still get my kids just the way they are, I'd do a few things differently. If I didn't know with absolute certainty they would still arrive, I would not touch one single detail, and would be in fact afraid of messing it up. OTOH, if that were a given, I would think hard about doing harm to certain former boyfriends, only in a do unto others before they do unto you sort of way, and not be such a f'ing shrinking violet as I was then. I would have made myself slog through the undergrad computer science or computer engineering curriculum, instead of letting myself use boredom as an excuse not to. Though I am glad of my linguistics background, so I would want to keep that coursework in my plan. I'm glad I took off work in the early years for my kids, and would do that again.
4. What do you think is your greatest strength?
I have no freaking idea. Perhaps my analytical abilities, which I have come to understand are more formidable than I would have believed if I hadn't been told a few times. Maybe sheer dumb perseverance.
5. If you suddenly had a million dollars, what would you do with it?
Well, this is a bit of a canard, but what the hey. (You, with the million dollar genius grant...sure you want to give me that money with no strings attached. You know you want to.)
I'd quit my job (Sorry,
dspitzle), walk every day, start taking yoga classes several times a week forthwith, fully fund my IRAs and up the contributions to the kids' college funds, look into finishing my CS masters, hire someone to fix up the house (bath and kitchen remodels plus basement work), travel more including go to a few more cons each year and a (half) marathon or two, take the kids camping and to see national parks in the summer, and volunteer more, probably with 826 Michigan as a tutor for starters.
