I've now officially been to Comic Fiesta for 5 years in a row. In all these 5 years, CF has always been one of my favourite anime events, and will always be the biggest event I'll always look forward to, which is evident with the fact that I've always managed to perform for each one I've attended. Even though a part of me wishes I would drop out of CF, stop performing, and get on with real life, the moment I step into the halls where CF is held to the point where it's time to leave, I realise....
I love this event, and I really want to go for the next one.
Probably the worst thing about this year was the fact that I had to fall sick days before this event. I had barely recovered and yet I steeled myself through two days of ACG bliss before completely losing my voice the very next day. Add on to the fact that I suffered from insomnia on the day before the event when I was to perform and cosplay, and let's just say I was in a really bad state. But it didn't dampen my spirits that much. XD
First off, let me talk about my cosplay. My first day cosplay went according to plan, of which I merely wanted to do something simple yet fun as I would be performing on that day. So I cosplayed....
Bathroom shot! Lol!!
Matryoshka! Luka version! I bought the hoodie while I was in New Zealand and loved it a lot, although it didn't occur to me at the time that I would use it for cosplaying. Admittedly, a proper Luka cosplay would not have a panda on the front, but I never cared about that. XD Cause other than that, I thought I got the look down all right. One of my fellow dancers who is also a cosplayer helped me a HECK load, from my makeup, to putting on my fake eyelashes and lenses (OMG I was a sight to behold when she tried to put on my lenses... I was CRYING by the end of it cause I was just NOT used to putting on lenses), and even down to braiding my wig for easier use. Was so grateful to her for her help!!
Me and PedoBear! Will talk more about him below...
So I ran around most of the day in this outfit, and I realise I probably look pretty fat in it. But meh, I tried! And I like the fact that I at least had my face look the part at least!
Comic Fiesta had its issues as they held the event for the first time in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. The security there didn't expect so many guests to come in that they actually locked the doors, causing a huge crowd outside and a lot of angry people. I had to run out and grab a few of my dancers and even
yume_mi, who were all stuck outside because the security just wouldn't let people in! Thankfully, as performers for CF, we had special guest passes that allowed us to roam around freely, and I used that a lot to my advantage and I didn't have to go through a lot of the horror others experienced, especially those who wanted to watch
Mikuni and Ceui perform.
Speaking of Mikuni and Ceui, I was surprised that they performed a lot earlier than I expected, which is a rare moment indeed (schedules usually tend to be late, not early!). While
yume_mi got to check out whatever was left of their performance, I could only check them out for a while before rushing out to save more of my fellow dancers who were being held up by KLCC's security. In the end, I didn't really get to enjoy the performance much, but from what little I heard, they were AMAZING singers and a lot of fun. XD
Our performance was slotted all the way to the end of the day, which was probably one of the worst scheduling ever given for my past performances. As I was sick and only had barely 1-2 hours of sleep, I was EXHAUSTED to the point that I could barely think straight and kept blanking out at some points, especially when people tried to talk to me. I was on "auto-pilot" as I gathered everyone for last minute practices and assembled them all as we waited for our time to perform.
In the end, I admit my performance was weak. But I won't say much, cause in the end, EVERYONE HAD FUN and was very happy by the end of the day, and I think that's all that matters. ^^

We performed T-Ara's "I Go Crazy Because of You" of which I screwed up mostly around three parts, all of which was me blanking out about my next steps thanks to exhaustion and lack of sleep, but hey, it turned out all right I think! But curses on my hoodie falling at the end! My wig cap was clearly visible by the next performance especially...

I'm so, SO glad to have recruited my friend Jatta, who danced solo in the beginning of this video. One of the main reasons why I broke off with the initial group leader was because he didn't like the idea of recruiting dancers who don't cosplay. But to me, Jatta is an AMAZING dancer and he's been incredibly helpful in sharpening our steps and moves. So what if this is Comic Fiesta where cosplayers roam? They need to see some good dancing! And as you can clearly see, he's a crowd favourite. ^^
Overall, I especially liked this performance. Sure, we could've been stronger, but what I loved about this performance was that it was clear we were all having fun and loving it. By the end of the performance, all we could think of was WE NEED TO DO THIS AGAIN NEXT YEAR!!!! #*&%!#*&%@$#*
You can see
a vid of us practicing here without the boys (they were behind the camera). We seriously came a long way, and it makes me glad to see the girls doing their best. ^^
Once that was over, a lot of my friends went back while I stayed back with
yume_mi to watch
Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo by Makoto Shinkai, the first movie screening from CF. I'm a big fan of this man's work, and while the movie did have its weaknesses, I felt that overall, the man took a step forward from his usual style. It's very similar to Ghibli, which is probably the biggest problem with it, but I loved the underlying message and the use of ancient mythologies which I wish they could've used more! The creatures were interesting especially!
So the first day of CF was over and while I did plan to cosplay another character on Day 2, the costume was still incomplete. Even if it WERE complete, I don't think I would've had the energy or the drive to cosplay for one more day as I was still sick and exhausted. And as my friend needed me to help promote his doujin group, "Umeboshi" by wearing his t-shirt, I decided that I'd wear his t-shirt and use my FAVOURITE WIG EVAAARR!!! to go with it. XD
Me and the boys from Umeboshi!
On my second day, I spent most of my time shopping around the doujin alleys. Let me put it this way, this is another aspect that I LOVE so much about CF. If I had a lot of money, I would buy a lot of badges and artworks! But alas, I had to limit myself a lot and bought only these much by the end of the day...
My haul by the end of the day!
But hey, at least it's something. ^^ My biggest gripe is that I wish people would create more artworks and doujins for "older" series. A lot of it are now Tiger & Bunny, an anime which I've yet to watch, and even one guy that I was talking to complained that though they had some Final Fantasy merchandise, it was only on Cloud and Sephiroth. He had to commission someone to draw Axel for him! Which made me realise I should probably commission some artists to draw Eyeshield 21 for me. THERE WERE NO ES21 MERCHANDISE TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE!!! Which is kinda typical, seeing how it's been like that for a while, but I've found some ES21 badges before. I barely found some Ace Attorney badges, and well... just about any of my favourite series is barely around. The only ones that still remain strong is Vocaloid, which I'm sure won't die anytime soon. Heck, there's already artworks on SeeU, the Korean vocaloid!
As I began to feel more ill as the day went by, I opted to sit outside of the convention hall towards the park and watch as cosplayers walked around and had their photos taken. It was actually pretty fun to watch... we had this girl who didn't even cosplay a particular character. She merely zombified herself in Malaysia's secondary school pinafore (for some reason, I cannot find any pictures of her!!)... but she totally took the stage because she was completely "in character" and scared a heck load of people who walked past! From kids, to even adults! I heard one girl scream when she saw the student zombie, much to our amusement! XD
We even had
Bronies walking around the place with a giant Fluttershy, making it well known that we have My Little Pony fans right here in Malaysia. XD
But of course, I had to hang out with my friend Angelus, who actually completed his PedoBear outfit just in time for CF! He was worried he wouldn't make it, but lo and behold!
Umeboshi posing with the Comic Fiesta crew! Everyone loves PedoBear!
He had everyone's attention from the get go and continued to harrass everyone around. Of course, I spent most of the time kicking his ass, and I mean this very literally. XD But it's all in good fun. XD
So many great cosplays on Day 2! And I had fun talking to random people about what was going on, and cheering on other cosplayers on stage and just overall having a good time! As the day ended with a Dance Party, and the DJs announced that this was the end of CF2011 and that we'll all meet again at CF2012, I could already see myself getting ready for it.
After all, it'll always remain one of my favourite events ever!!
In other news, I got my cousin, another person I know who USED to work with laptops, to check mine out for a second opinion. After trying it out and realising it's slow and won't load, he figured out that it wasn't exactly a hardware problem... but a hard drive problem instead. Upon removing my hard drive, my laptop did load a lot faster, so he said he'll reformat that and see if it'll work once that's done. Maybe after this, I'll work on reformating my laptop then! Hopefully that goes well! It'll be such a life saver for me!
