I keep thinking I'm in this great place right now. Things are working out well. I still don't know if I really want stay in academia (it isn't appealing to me at this point). Wondering what will happen to me in the future is making me question the future I had set out for myself when I was young. I've gotten more... idealistic. I'm wanting simpler ( Read more... )

I hate to sound like an old person, especially one of those that thinks they have it all figured out (because I certainly don't), but I think that's pretty normal. You've still got the rest of the school year to mull it over, and if you decide to continue toward a higher degree, you can. If in that time you find another direction you'd like to take your life in, do so. Take it as it comes, and enjoy the present. The future will be here soon enough, and you'll find that it isn't about whether or not you become the person that you once thought or hoped you would be, but realizing that you've been the same person all along, just growing along the way.
