Chapter 37:
Kazuya stopped his hands motion and stared at Jin’s back for some moments. “I… I do.”
“Hmm… You do?” Jin mumbled, trying to sound nonchalantly but failed. He paused for a second before his tone became serious. “I didn’t… until the moment I met you.”
That was it. He said it. He started off. “I… I like Kazu-chan.” Jin opened his eyes and got up from the couch. “I really love Kazu-chan. I love you. I always do since the first time I met you.” He sat up fully and confessed while staring into Kazuya’s eyes deeply.
He feared for what Kazuya’s reply would be. He’s scared of Kazuya’s reaction to this whole thing. Why was he so dumb to confess to Kazuya right here under this kind of circumstance? He must be out of his mind! Yes, he must be. He shut his eyes again and thought sorrowfully. What if Kazuya didn’t think the same as him afterall? What if Kazuya still loves Keita throughout the whole time? He didn’t dare to open his eyes. He didn’t want to see or received any negative answers from Kazuya.
Kazuya froze there rigidly in his position, suddenly not knowing what to do.
This was the moment he has been waiting for so long. He kept on staring at Jin abstractedly until Jin decided to crack his eyes open due to the long silence and peeped at Kazuya timidly. “Kazu?”
Kazuya frantically shot his glance to elsewhere in front of him but just particularly not at Jin. ‘It’s now or never.’
‘Apparently… Kazu’s not feeling the same…’
Jin cleared his throat once. “Are you alright?” He tried his best to mask all the insecurity and hurt he felt from Kazuya’s lack of response.
Kazuya mimicked Jin and cleared his throat once too. “Hmm… nothing. I was just taken aback by your statement.” Kazuya replied tentatively; his reply still got caught in his throat like a big lump. Jin noticed how Kazuya inhaled a deep breath of air and exhaled it completely, but still, not letting a word out. He wondered was the smaller man trying to calm himself down or to release his impatience.
Your inadvertent sigh contained a heart shattering sound. His story was the black cloud caught in between our love story.
‘Shit. That’s it. I’m really such a failure.’
‘How shall I react? What kind of reply shall I give in return?’
“You didn’t think the same as me… right?” Jin whispered out painfully. “I-I’m sorry to… to cause you this inconvenience. I-It’s late, I-I should leave now… Sorry… I’m sorry…” Jin assumed disappointedly and stuttered out excruciatingly. He wanted to get up from the couch and rushed out but he couldn’t find the willpower to stand up right there and leave the room. His legs felt wobbly and precarious. He so wished that the carpeted floor could open up now and swallowed him to avoid the heavy atmosphere.
“J-Jin…” Kazuya’s soft, concerning voice called out and a trembling, uncertain hand on his forearm brought Jin back to his senses.
I listened to your uncertain tone; I waited for you to release your hesitance. If you close your eyes gently, I will understand the decision you make.
Jin turned his head to look at Kazuya deep into his eyes, awaiting for… anything from Kazuya. “Jin, I wanted to say… yes, I’m alright.” Kazuya immediately saw how disappointment swam into Jin’s features yet looking relieved at the same time. He felt ache in his heart but he knew he has to continue for he doesn’t want to lose this precious chance. “But that’s for the question you asked me, wasn’t it?”
Jin looked shocked at Kazuya’s words. Light shone onto his path again.
“J-Jin… you didn’t bother to hear me out… to give me the chance to tell you what has been on my mind since a long time ago.” Kazuya started off in a quivering, nervous voice, bracing himself bravely for his own first confession too.
Jin had prepared himself for the worst.
“Jin, I really…” Before Kazuya could completely spoke his mind, Jin interrupted him right at the vital point ruefully. He still thought that… he couldn’t take the harsh blow if Kazuya were to reject him now.
“Don’t force yourself.”
Kazuya blinked and halted in his speech, feeling flabbergasted. “I did not…”
“I will be alright. You don’t need to feel bothered by my words… I will make sure…” Jin stated stonily, knives plunging themselves freely into his body.
“No! Jin! Cut your crap! Listen to me!” Kazuya shouted a tad too loud in an infuriated tone. He didn’t want to waste his breath to calm Jin down. He just wanted to let all his heartfelt thoughts be released. And he wanted the right person to listen to it! He doesn’t want this chance to be wasted.
If you love someone, tell them. Never be afraid to express yourself. Remember; always say what you mean; always mean what you say.
“I LIKE YOU!” Kazuya yelled at the top of his lungs, hoping these three simple words would reach the one in front of him. Indeed, Jin heard him. Obviously, wasn’t it? Jin stared hard at him, waiting for more to come.
“No… no.” Kazuya quickly corrected himself in a small voice but still capable of being heard by Jin. “No, I don’t like you… I LOVE YOU!” He yelled the last three magical words aloud. “I love you since long ago!”
Jin gasped and couldn’t find any ounce of his voice to respond. He breathed in deeply and stared at Kazuya’s orbs lovingly. Time seemed to stop when Jin only stared at Kazuya deeply without doing anything else.
“J-Jin? Are you okay?” Kazuya shook Jin at his forearm a bit.
“Jin!?”
“JIN!” Kazuya screamed again. He nearly contemplated on biting Jin’s forearm.
“W-what!? Yeah yeah, I am here…” Jin replied in a dazed mode.
“Jin, did you hear me?” Kazuya inquired coyly.
“Y-yeah… I did. Kazu…. You said you… love me. I-I love you too! I meant it! Love happened when I met you right from the very first moment. It’s Fate. Fate brought us together!” Jin declared boldly in absolute eagerness.
Your love for me makes me the happiest.
Kazuya chuckled. “I know… Fate has indeed brought us together, ne? I have always wanted to tell you this… I even drafted a text message in my phone but I did not send out. See.” Kazuya brought out his cellphone and showed Jin the said text message.
“Serious? Why?”
“Because… I wanted to tell you personally. I don’t want a technological machine to convey this important message of mine since it meant a whole lot to me.”
“Kazu…” Jin pulled Kazuya into his embrace. Suddenly, Jin tensed up. “But wait… Kazu… didn’t you like… Keita?” Jin felt that he needed to get this clarified somehow sooner or later.
A spoiler for the atmosphere though.
“Jin! I did not! How come you and Pi thought the same thing?” Kazuya felt a bit wronged and pulled away from Jin, glaring at him with a deadpanned face.
“Well, you can’t blame us…”
“It’s been so long. If I had really like him, I would have chose him right at the beginning and be with him. But he’s not the right one. He knew it too.” Kazuya explained lucidly.
“Yeah, I’m sure he knew…” Jin mumbled.
“I beg your pardon?”
“I still remembered he talked to me a lot about you during the time when we had our mini celebration for our graduation.”
“Oh really?”
“Yes…”
“Hmm… well, haven’t you heard of this quote before? ‘It will be an accident if a seagull in the sky ever falls in love with a fish in the sea’. It so described the relationship between Kei and me.” Kazuya grinned widely, feeling proud of his own citation.
“Har?” Jin stared at Kazuya in big eyes with a funny expression. “No. Who said that?” Jin got very curious.
“Me. The noble Kamenashi Kazuya.” Kazuya grinned again and pointed his thumb at himself. Then he grabbed Jin to draw him near for another hug. He had always dreamt of doing that so much.
“Kazu, that’s lame…” Jin commented lazily while returning the favor automatically.
“But it’s true. A seagull in the sky will never fall in love with a fish in the sea, right? This applies. I meant it. We are both the same so that kind of accident definitely won’t happen to us. Not now, not in the future. This statement will act as an evidence to declare to you that I, Kamenashi Kazuya really and I mean, really love you so much that I will never want any other person. NEVER.”
I have a flower which I want to make it bloom… and that is you.
Jin felt touched by Kazuya’s determination and love. He tightened his embrace more. “But Kazu… what about… your life?”
“What about my life?” Kazuya returned the question innocently.
“How will the others judge you from now on? What about your parents? How will they think? You are the successor of the grand Kamenashi’s Corporation… you can’t afford to have this kind of scandal. And… And Mr. Kamenashi, he doted on me a lot…”
Kazuya immediately pulled away again, horror evident on his face. “Jin! This is not a scandal! Being with you isn’t a shameful thing. I don’t care what others will think, I don’t care how they will see us, because I just care and want to know what the person right in front of me now, thinks about us. Keita advised me to follow my heart and my feeling. Now, my heart is telling me that you are the one I love so I will never let go of you. As for my parents, I will find a suitable time and inform them, don’t fret over it.” Kazuya smiled encouragingly. “Love can only take place with the special right person we are meant to be with; no matter what the gender of the person is. Therefore, loving you isn’t a mistake because dealings of heart never did follow a rational path. I will never regret it. And I won’t let it go.”
“Kazu…” Jin nuzzled his nose into the crook of Kazuya’s neck.
You need not worry because it’s already in the past.
As I held you tight in my embrace, you asked me ‘what about the future’.
Don’t be afraid, I will be there with you.
“You know Jin, there are many times when we tend to neglect the truth that the person meant for us, is actually standing right in front of us.”
“Yeah… true. To be honest, I thought you were one of them.” Jin joked convivially.
“What? No way! I realized my feelings for you even before Keita’s return! Should say, I have affirmed my feelings for you right before we have our graduation.” Kazuya smiled and snuggled his face into Jin’s neck this time.
“I was only joking…” Jin pressed a tender kiss on Kazuya’s temple boldly. “At the beginning, I felt so upset whenever I thought that you love Keita while I can only love you silently. It’s been a long way for me and I have endured a lot in between, especially when Keita had returned to Japan. There’s a time when I really thought of killing him and end everything.” Jin admitted guiltily.
Kazuya pulled his head away from the comfortable zone and looked up at Jin from his position, narrowing his eyes dangerously. “If you ever do that…”
“I know. I won’t live, right?” Jin finished Kazuya’s sentence for him. And the latter nodded grimly. Jin could only grimace and shuffled Kazuya back into his arms, letting the smaller man snuggled against his chest.
“Well, anyway, it was also until Keita finally returned to Japan and talked to me when I had finally decided to stop ‘hating’ him and followed what my heart told me to do.” Jin smiled upon recalling the conversation he had with his so-called love rival.
“So… we actually have to thank Kei?” Kazuya mumbled softly against Jin’s chest.
“Well, including Pi as well. He has always been there for me…” Jin wrapped his arms around his boyfriend tightly.
Yes, his boyfriend. His lover. His soulmate. He could finally declare this loud and clear to everyone.
He, Akanishi Jin, has finally attained his happiness, Kamenashi Kazuya.
He tilted Kazuya’s head up gently with his fingers and leaned down his head, pressing his own lips onto Kazuya’s, offering his lover a deep, affectionate kiss to mark their love.
My love, I’m here. I won’t go anywhere without you, I’ll be waiting for you. You know that I love you, and that is why there is no need for you to get worried. Irregardless of how far apart we may be, my love for you doesn’t change and will not change. I will always wait for you, be with you. Even if there will be any obstacles in future, even if I were to lose something in return, I swear that I will always loves and protects you.
This year, the happiest thing is being able to be by your side…
