Chapter 14:
Kame inhaled deeply once again and then exhaled. “It’s okay, Pi. There’s no need for you to say sorry. You are not the one who’s at fault anyway. But I do have a favor to ask from you.”
Yamapi nodded earnestly. “Yes? Anything for you.”
“Thanks. Can you… like, keep me accompanied today?” Kame said lucidly.
“Of course!” Yamapi smiled pleasantly, feeling relieved that they were finally over that heated issue but he made a mental note to himself that one day, he should just kill Ryo and Jin without any appalling hesitation.
“But Kame-chan, why didn’t you call me earlier? I mean since you know… when that bastard didn’t make it for the date. You should have called me earlier. If I did not call you just now, does that mean you will not be telling anyone about what had happened today? I am always here for you, you know that.”
Kame took a gentle hold on Yamapi’s hand and squeezed it affectionately. “I know. That was why I didn’t call you. Because Pi, you are not obliged to be there for me forever. I don’t deserve your kindness.”
“Kame, don’t say that… I should blame myself too. I should have called you earlier to check on you.” Yamapi lowered his head in guilt.
Kame squeezed Yamapi’s hand softly again and gave a small, assuring smile.
Neither one of them wanted to continue that never-ending awkward subject so they remained silent.
Yamapi waited for Kame to calm down and recovered from his alternating sobs before suggesting cheerfully that they should just enjoy themselves for the day since they were already there at the amusement park. And Kame agreed with a few tender yet half-hearted nods.

They played each and every ride in the place till they practically had combed and covered all the rides and games. It was until the time that those bright, sparkling neon lights went out one part by one part, did they realized that it was time for them to head out and leave the fun-playing amusement park.
As they stepped out from the colorful huge gates, Yamapi twisted his head and cast a fleeting look at the younger one beside him who appeared to be walking leisurely but in reality, was dragging his feet heavily along with him. Behind that serene and composed face of Kame’s, Yamapi could make out the fatigue and melancholy that had broken him down into a torn, worn-out rag. Behind that pair of blank eyes, Yamapi had discerned that even though Kame’s physical self was there with him, but Kame’s heart was not there with him at all. His heart had flown to Jin’s side long ago as always, despite his unwillingness to admit to that.
Not long after, they arrived at a comfy café. They decided to go in and have a short rest before leaving for other restaurants to have their dinner. After they settled down at a window seat at the very far end of the café and ordered a glass of orange juice each, Yamapi finally spoke up his poignant words in a soft tone. “I had enough.”
“I beg your pardon?” Kame did not quite understand what Yamapi meant although he had clearly heard it all.
“I’m sure you are aware and I certainly need not remind you again that I am always and will forever stay beside you but… afterall, no matter what, I am not Jin.” Kame glanced up into his best friend’s eyes that chose to look out of the window and let his rebellious gaze stayed there. “I can’t make you feel happy. Kame, today is supposing to be your day. I really want you to be in high spirits, enjoying and all. And definitely not so…” Yamapi finally returned his gaze to Kame’s eyes and emphasized the last word strongly, “lifeless.”
After waiting a few seconds for Kame’s non-responsive eye contact, Yamapi fished out his cellphone and handed it to him across the table. “Give him a call and ask to meet him. You still have like…” Yamapi checked the time on his watch. “… a few more hours before this day officially comes to an end.”
Kame hesitated for a while but yet, he shook his head and rejected Yamapi’s helpful suggestion.
At the same time, the waiter had returned with their drinks and placed them down on the table. Sensing the tense atmosphere that was spreading out at there, the waiter quickly took his leave while mumbling “enjoy the drinks”.
Yamapi couldn’t care less now and he felt so pained. He doesn’t even know whether the pain he felt was it directed to his own self or to the one he loves. He analyzed that this issue shouldn’t be delayed any further and hence, he brought up the phone in his hand and started dialing the familiar number.
Kame had wanted to stop Yamapi but he couldn’t as he doesn’t want to create a fuss in the café. They were still idols, in public’s eyes. In addition, Yamapi’s rigid, deadly glare had frozen him to his seat, without moving an inch.
Jin finally picked up his phone after a few infuriating rings.
“Hello.” Jin answered annoyingly. Yamapi took note that his voice was full of hoarseness. But he ignored that.
“Jin.” he called out coldly.
“What?” Jin’s aggravated and antagonistic voice floated out then a few shuffling sounds was heard, indicating that Jin might be checking his ID caller, “Pi? What’s the matter?”
“Where are you now?” Yamapi maintained his cold tone which made Kame flinched and shrank more into his seat.
“Home, of course. Why? You want to ask me out?” Jin answered nonchalantly as if nothing has happened between them.
“Well, technically, yes. Our dear friend here has something to ask you.” Without waiting for Jin’s reply, Yamapi handed Kame the cellphone and signaled sturdily that Kame must answer the phone whether he liked it or not.
When Kame got the phone in his hand and pushed it to his ears tentatively, he could still hear Jin’s faltered voice asking “Huh? Who?”
Kame cleared his throat and spoke shakily into the device. “Erm, Jin, it’s me.”
“What? Kazu?” Jin’s voice sounded from curious to slightly nervous then to a slightly irritated and finally, an antagonistic tone. “You are with Pi now?”
“I… yeah. I am with him now.”
“I see.” Jin’s voice became solid and cold that made Kame cringed in fear. “Have you been enjoying then?” His sarcastic tone did not escape from Kame’s sharp, sensitive hearing.
Jin knew it. He knew that Yamapi would go and saved Kame from this kind of stupid situation; he shouldn’t have been so worried about the younger man all day long when Ryo kept bitching on him. He knew somehow, just somehow, Kame would have his companion. Anyone, but not him.
“I… Err… Jin, please don’t get the wrong impression about us. Pi… he just came to look for me when you… did not come…” Kame tried to explain in coherent sentences.
“Well, there’s no need for you to explain so clearly to me. It doesn’t matter to me at all.” Jin said coolly, while trying to control his voice inwardly, making sure he still sounded calm to the other. Inside him, blood was trickling down from his heart and he felt pain. Yes, it doesn’t matter anymore. Things were cleared up now, weren’t they?
Is there any cure for this kind of torturous pain?
“Jin…” Tears started to gather in Kame’s orbs where Yamapi could clearly notice it. Yamapi stretched his hand out impatiently and signaled to Kame to hand him back his cellphone. And Kame obeyed quietly.
When Yamapi took it back, he spoke harshly into the device. “Jin, I seriously don’t understand why am I still friends with you. You are not only stupid, dense and lacking of judgment; you are also a heartless, cold-blooded bastard who cares about nothing but only yourself.”
