Chapter 34:
“About the person Kazu-chan likes.”
“Har!? Do you think I am that dumb? I can see that Kazuya likes you!” Jin practically shouted. He doesn’t care who might get the chance to hear him.
‘Argh! This baka here is really an ultimate, hopeless baka of all the bakas!’
“Ah yes, he likes me, you big dumb dumb! But is in terms of ‘family love’! Not that kind of ‘love’ that you are assuming!”
He waited for Jin to retort back anything but still heard nothing after a mere few seconds. He glared at the person next to him who’s still keeping up his antagonistic expression, wanting to challenge Jin to answer anything back. But still, none came.
“You know, at first I thought I was going to lose Kazu-chan when I came back from L.A.. I mean not in terms of ‘love’, but in terms of ‘family love’. I still remembered how jubilant he was, over the things that he kept babbling to me about you. Like somehow, I have lost my stand in his heart. He might not have said it, but somehow I knew it. I could sense it. He likes you. Just that he doesn’t know how to express himself in front of you.”
“Kei… It’s alright. Don’t bother to explain so much to me. I… I lost. Alright? I admitted defeat. I lost to you. I lose Kazu right from the moment I knew he likes you. I fell dumbly in love with him since the first time I saw him in school. But after knowing him, I realized the person he loves, is you. Not anyone else. I can never replace you in his heart. So, you won.”
‘This blockhead is not listening to me all along! Are we are talking about chickens and ducks now!? Oh come on~ Pi, save me!’
“Jin.” Keita called out sternly.
Jin turned his sad gaze to Keita, fist clenching tightly inconspicuously behind his back and the other could clearly see tears welling up in Jin’s eyes.
‘I know you are hurting, Jin but if you don’t even give yourself a chance to hear my explanation now, you will be hurting yourself more! You tootie!’
“Jin, what did I win?” Keita willed himself to calm down and asked ruefully with patience. But upon hearing no further explanations from Jin, Keita went on. “You did not lose anything. You did not lose to me. Hell, I did not even win or gain anything in return, you know? How could I have won someone that was never mine to begin with?”
Jin twisted his head and looked at Keita inquisitively.
Keita continued. “And you! How could you say you lose someone when that person is never yours to begin with too? Kazu-chan is not a prize. We can’t push him around, deciding ourselves for whom he will be with. He has the right to decide who he wants to be with. And in this case, he chooses you, Jin. He likes you, can’t you see that? I am not the right one for him in terms of ‘love for the whole lifetime’. I am just the love of his family. Just one of them, to be precise. Can you see my point now?”
Jin kept his silence and gazed at a faraway sight knowingly, pondering seriously over the information he had just received.
“Jin… Kazu-chan’s pained, frozen heart has been locked since long time back. Please, can you seek for the only key and alleviates Kazu-chan from this agony? You should know what to do, right?”
~*~
“Hey! Why did the two of you take such a long, sweet time in grabbing those snacks and drinks? Kame-chan and I were rotting here!” Yamapi whined childishly.
“Sorry, Pi… here.” Keita chuckled sheepishly and handed him a glass of fresh orange juice.
Jin handed a glass of juice to Kazuya who was sitting on the carpeted floor in front of the couch, before moving a few steps back and sat down solemnly on the couch and held his palm up to his chin and supported it, resting on the armrest, deep in his sea of thoughts.
“Jin, you’re not eating?” Kazuya raised his question innocently and held out a piece of cookie towards Jin spontaneously, not realizing that this small act of his was simply melting someone’s heart.
Jin saw this act and blushed. “E-err… I…” Jin was lost for words when Kazuya further tilted his head to a side and produced a cute sound that sounded suspiciously like “Hmm?”
‘Ah damn! He looked so adorable that I feel like pulling him into my embrace and nuzzles him now!’
“I wanted to… I will get it my-” Jin was cut off when Kazuya got up from his place on the floor and crawled towards Jin’s direction within a few crawls.
“There!” Kazuya held out that piece of delicious cookie with his right hand to Jin again while supporting himself with his left hand palming hard on the floor. He stretched out his lean body gracefully and leaned forward invitingly.
‘OH. MY. GOD.’ Jin made a move to try and grappled something and thought that he would nearly collapsed with an overwhelming excitement from this teasing pose of Kazuya’s.
Jin accepted the piece of snack over and munched on it distractedly. On the other side of the room, Yamapi and Keita watched the whole scene in amusement and were laughing off.
“They are cute, aren’t they?” Yamapi asked Keita who was laughing too hard at Jin’s flushed expression, a total opposite from the Jin whom he was talking to earlier on.
“Yeah, I can’t believe that Kazu-chan can be such a tease… They are like, made for one another, ne? They just fit perfectly.” Keita answered in between his laughter.
After about half an hour of slacking around with those delicious snacks and relaxation, they came up with a lame game to get past the time again. More to like the game creator was just Yamapi.
This game that he thought of was called ‘who resembled a cat the most when they smile’. It’s basically to distinguish and determined whose smile was the most cat-like between Keita and Kazuya. It’s just as simple as that. Of course, Jin and he would then have to vote and see who wins. Alright, now, isn’t this a lame game? You decide and tell Yamapi your answer.
Anyway, Keita, Kazuya and Jin were being forced by Yamapi to participate in this lame game with a threatening lollipop swaying frantically in front of them and some yelling that sounded pretty clearly like “Play with me or you will not see me again!” and then some mutinous, wailing noise ensued.
~*~
“It’s really a stupid game, Pi.” Kazuya complained in aggravation.
“It’s not!” Yamapi denied.
“It is!”
“It’s not!”
“It is! If not, you tell me! What kind of a game is not called stupid when the game is supposed to determine who looks like a cat the most when we smile!?” Kazuya felt slightly indignant, seeing that he was being categorized as a feline cat by his friend.
“It’s not stupid! And it’s true that both you and Kei do have a pretty cat-like smile when you put on a nice smile!” Yamapi countered. “Right, Jin?”
Jin laughed and nodded in agreement, causing Kazuya to pout cutely.
‘Ah… don’t pout at me. Makes me wanna kiss it away…’
Just then, Kazuya narrowed his eyes and sent a frigid, death glare to Jin who gulped hardly from it, retracting his laughter immediately. He looked over to Keita and saw that he and Yamapi were trying to control their amused laughter at the antics of the two of them.
“Hey!” Jin warned.
But too bad. None of them took heed of it. And therefore, loud laughter burst out from them and filled the room.
Soon, Kazuya joined in the laughing as well, forgetting about his trivial dispute with Yamapi at that moment.
“Alright, alright. So let’s start this game now. Who are the voters?” Keita managed to stop and cued Yamapi to begin the game.
“Kei! You are actually joining his insane game?!” Kazuya yelled appallingly.
“Well, we are not going to lose anything, so why not? Kazu-chan, join in~ come on!”
“…” Kazuya was left speechless.
“Kam-” Jin paused for a while, hesitated a moment before he continued, “Kazu-chan. I… want to see your sexy, cat-like smile… Join in the fun. Ne?” Jin chirped in without paying any attention to what he had said.
‘I think that will be a good start for our future relationship right? If we are really going to be… be together one day. I should start to call him ‘Kazu-chan’ from now on, right?’ Jin assured himself.
Inside my heart, your gentle melody starts playing…
~ FLASHBACK ~
“Jin… please, alleviates Kazu-chan from this agony. You should know what to do, right?”
“I…”
“Jin.”
“Yes… I do know it. I will… work my very best to win his heart! Thank you, Keita. Really, thank you so much. If it’s not for you… I think I will still be such a loser, backing out without even giving a try.” Jin thanked Keita sincerely.
“No… you’re welcomed. Just, I don’t want you to neglect Kazu-chan’s happiness when it is so obvious that you are the only one for him.” Keita went up to him and gave him a friendly hug.
“I wish you all the best in trying to win his heart ne… Pi and I will be aiding you as well, if you need it. Just let us know anything, any time, ne?” Keita withdrew his arms and patted Jin on his shoulder.
“Come, let us head back. If not, that Pig and Kazu-chan will start grumbling.”
“H-hold on, Keita.” Jin muttered.
“Yes?”
“Well, you know… regarding Kaz-Kame’s…” Jin started dubiously.
“Jin.” Keita interrupted Jin. “I know what you are implying. Don’t take me as a fool.” Keita gave a wide grin to Jin. “I know you have been slipping on calling Kazu-chan as ‘Kazu’ instead of Kame, am I right?”
Jin blushed slightly at that statement and nodded his head frantically. “Yeah… Fortunately, Kaz-Kame didn’t realize it.” Jin smacked his palm hard at his forehead again to show his disappointment.
“See? You slipped again, Jin.”
“It’s alright ne, just called him ‘Kazu’. He won’t mind.” Keita assured Jin.
“But, are you sure? Pi didn’t call him that name though. Isn’t it that Kame minds?” Jin asked tentatively.
“Well, not that Kazu-chan minds. It was that Pi found ‘Kame-chan’ cuter for Kazu, instead of ‘Kazu-chan’.”
“I see… No wonder…”
“Hmm?” Keita looked at Jin questioningly.
“Ah… I still remembered the first time I let this name slipped through my mouth, Kame realized it too and requested me to call him again.”
“Really?” Keita chuckled. “Then how come you stopped doing that?”
“Well, that’s because I… I realized that’s the name you call him and I thought he may see me as your substitute instead. I know I am stupid and childish for thinking that way but…” Jin’s voice faltered.
“Don’t worry, I understand. Ne, why not Jin, you try to start calling him ‘Kazu-chan’ from now on as well? He will accept it soon as you, and not as me, I’m sure…” Keita insinuated to Jin.
“Really?”
“Yeah. Why not? By then, let’s see what’s Kazu-chan’s reaction will be.” Keita chuckled.
“… okay.” Jin agreed hesitantly.
“But there’s one thing I need to clarify with you at the beginning. That is, I won’t stop calling him as ‘Kazu-chan’ though.” Keita tried to sound dominant but failed quite badly, simply because Jin let out a small mocking laughter.
“Hey!” Keita protested. “I did try my best in sounding… crafty. You should appreciate it instead of laughing at me!”
Jin was still laughing hard at Keita. “Oh okay… Sure.” He replied in between his laughter.
“You don’t sound too sincere, Jin…” Keita bantered, eyes narrowing into slits.
Jin gulped. “Sorry, Keita.”
“It’s okay.” Keita flashed his big, convivial smile again. “Jin, since I have already started calling you as Jin, can you call me ‘Kei’ like Kazu do? Although Keita is fine too, it’s up to you though.”
“Okay, Kei.” Jin smiled genuinely.
~ END OF FLASHBACK ~
“M-my… sexy, cat-like smile?” Kazuya nearly choked on his own words, staring wide-eyed at Jin.
