Update to MALS project -- found Orson Scott Card's Empire this weekend, which would give me three dystopian novels written 2004 and later (Oryx and Crake, Off Armageddon Reef, and Empire) that fit the profile of what I really want to research, which is the changes that happened to dystopian issues since 9/11. Dr. Wald agrees, so off I go. No more Children of Men, which is just as well as I am finding it is a bit of a Christian allegory (according to P D James). That puts it into the realm of fantasy and I want to stick with things that are a bit more plausible (I know, Oryx and Crake may be a bit of a stretch but at least it is an extrapolation of current science. Nowhere in either the movie or the book does COM ever give you background on what caused the sterility).
Note of interest (to me, if not anyone else) -- Orson Scott Card lives in Greensboro, NC and David Weber lives in South Carolina. Southerners and dystopia? Hmmm.
All day at the Art Museum today -- docent training and then docent library inventory. Better go make a sandwich!
