This and That

Working on Children of Men by PD James; excellent book.  Much different in many of the motivational aspects of the characters.  The movie was great, the book is also but differently.

Ate at Zely and Ritz (always a treat) last night, before the NC Symphony .  Tapas-style plates, and inventive dishes -- my entree was antelope stew, which was amazing.  Washed it down with a 2003 J. Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon.  Zarig made a vanilla creme brulee that was a nice addition to his regular flavored one, and the Tennessee Mud (Jack Daniels and Amaretto with coffee and whipped cream) was a nice finish.  And didn't even fall asleep during the symphony, which was technically well-played but basically uninspiring.

Went to a Beginner Coffee with the meetup Italian language group.  Twelve of us, some new, some with some pretty decent skills, divided into three groups, each with a different focus.  Somehow I got put in the intermediate group, but felt that I could understand at least 1/3 of what was being said, so that's actually not too bad.  I Managed to actually talk about  my trip in May and the family history in Italian, and have had to promise to call the woman who worked with our group when I am in Italy, as she will be back in Sicily (her home) at that time.   Guess I'd better find out who she is.

I know that I tend to write in very long sentences, but imagine that I am speaking rather than writing.  I'll try a voice posting sometime so that you can imagine what I sound like when you are reading the posts.   I find that once I hear a speaker, I hear them forever when I read their writing, i.e., Bill Bryson.  Just have to figure out how that works --

Got a new mobile phone today; the one I had just really didn't do the job.  The new one has a 1.3 mexapixel camera, an MP3 player (I guess I'll have to finally convert something to that format) and I can input 500 people in my contacts list.  I don't know that I know 500 people I want to be able to get in touch with that easily!  Can record up to five phone numbers for each one, which gives me the possibility of 2500 different phone numbers permanently recorded in my phone.  And actually, I am not fond of calling people on the phone -- I'll talk with anyone who calls, but I'd just as soon use email, myself.

Well, it's 6:10 left in the 1st period of the 'Canes against Washington (on TV) , and the score is already 3-0 Washington.  It will be a long night.

Dinner tonight:  Meat loaf, mashed potatoes, corn, salad.  Comfort food.
Tonight's wine:  2003 Elderton Friends Shiraz -- highly recommended

food, classical music, wine, italian, dystopia
