I've always been a bit nerdy about radio. I guess it runs in the family. When I was a kid my Dad would habitually by these books which seemed to consist of nothing but lists of radio stations across the United States, their format and wattage. He used to read these things like other people read Dan Brown books.
Meanwhile, I was thrilled as a teen to be given my Dad's old shortwave radio. I know it seems like no big whoop here in England, cuz it seems like every regular radio also has a shortwave option here, but to me, as a teen, this was A Very Big Deal. I used to do such geeky things as put the radio in my bed and practice my French by tunining into whatever French-speaking station I could pick up (and perpetually facing disappointment when I realized I'd tuned into 'La Voix d'Amerique'). Or I might be feeling subversive, in which case I'd tune into Radio Havana Cuba (very exciting!).
So it's really no surprise that I've come to love podcasting. I only wish I could download podcasts as I walk around town. (One DAY!) Here are my top faves in the Podcast world.
1):
Democracy Now! Proof that there is still American news media worth listening to. And how among us can listen and NOT develop a crush on Amy Goodman?
Yeast Radio Hard to describe this one, so I will go with Madge's tag line: "Politics, Irony, and Bloat." And always entertaining when Madge gets angry.
Then I also listen to some American Mainstream Media podcasts, just to see "what my people are hearing." But I'm not going to link to them because they're easy enough to find.
Anyway, Dear Readers, do you have any good podcasts to reccomend to me?
