For my birthday in May, I received an extremely thoughtful gift from someone I met last year who has come to be a very close friend of mine. I get hand-made gifts from my childhood friend all the time, so getting one from someone else made me feel extremely grateful and excited. As I've grown up and graduated from student life, I've found that making friends, the type who will stay with you for years, come over to your house, and talk to you on a weekly basis, are hard to come by. Just acquaintances and nothing more, dropping in to your life for a brief moment before leaving.
It's come time for his birthday now so I wanted to return the favour and make something just as thoughtful, with my own two hands. I often draw people birthday cards, but I wanted to be extra creative and do a craft project, so I chose resin. The theme: Space.
I spent about a month watching videos online and reading forums about how to do this and that, and what not to do, and how to avoid certain things, and then about a week actually making it. It turned out really well for a first time try. Not exactly what I had in mind, but a happy accident nonetheless, and I was extremely excited to show him, but most of all, I was proud of myself.
However, this morning when I woke up, the resin had become half-engulfed by a huge bubble which had formed within the glass jar I was pouring it within. The resin had already hardened and was beyond malleable and there was basically nothing to be done. During the day I observed the bubble expanding as well, soon there will be no spot to see through to the blue glittered resin I had poured within.
I'm all out of resin, and his party is tomorrow, so in a panic I dashed to the shops to try to find a backup gift. I don't really know what I was hoping to find, or what I was even thinking. Nothing the shops could provide would be as thoughtful as what he gave me, so I ended up coming home empty handed and unsure of what to do now.
