Bleh, computer stuff

So. Uhm. The brief period of elation at the cheap fix of my computer (heatsink fan replacement) was apparently rather premature. While it did indeed fix the problem, I had only been on the computer for perhaps an hour (perhaps less) when it decided to die again. This time, it seems that my new 80-gig hard drive fried itself. It is possible that only the controller board is fried, and that replacing the board will temporarily fix the problem, perhaps long enough to retrieve the data from the hard drive. However, the person capable and willing to do such a thing has told me that in his (and one other techie geek friend's) experience, Western Digital (the brand name) has a 100% failure rate within a 2-year period. Mine didn't even make it that long. He says that he, his friend, and his company have used at least 6 Western Digital products, and lost every single one of them.

That could explain why they were on sale.

So, that drive is gone, along with my music, my pictures, my videos, numerous programs, my Sims2 game data, and the entirety of the last three versions of Sims1, along with the game data. Thankfully it was not my primary hard drive, or I would be furious. As it is, I am simply very depressed. I hardly want to be on any computer at all. Nyte has offered to let me use his 60-gig hd, as he has a 40 and a 60, and hasn't even used all of the 40 (which is his primary, otherwise he'd give me the smaller drive and we'd have the same amount of storage space). Until he moves everything over and takes apart his computer, I'm leaving mine unplugged, undone, untouched. Things all over the house are breaking mysteriously, and I hope it's just the cats, and simple circumstance.

So. I finally managed to read the flist, although I didn't comment much. Uhm. Yeah.

Still no word from Chase. *sigh*
