indeed.
And in some cases (mostly by animal activists) dairy is villified, as it led to the creation of the veal industry.
part of it is leftover fears from the 50s and 60s about food with MSG (primarily Americanized Chinese food, which is ridiculous). Look at how we treated cholesterol until just a few years ago. Or carbohydrates. Red Meat. Wine. Chocolate.
Ultimately, these food industry folk are trying to play on our fears and sell us things. If that means noting that a Slurpee doesn't have any trans fats, as stupid as it is, so be it.
Oh... don't remind me... There are candy makers who put big "naturally fat free" labels on their boxes. Really? Naturally fat free? Must be good, despite 40g of simple sugar per serving.
Because MSG gives me horrendous pain in my abdomen when I eat it. Like, sometimes I writhe on the floor. Also, MSG induces seizures in my friend. One time she went to a Chinese restaurant where they said they wouldn't use MSG. They did and she was in a 17-hour seizure.

As for the movies and the phone thing... I agree. And moreso... whenever people use computers in movies... it just looks... well... Dumb.
