The members of the justice league were assembled around the large table. Batman was talking about something, though honestly, Superman wouldn’t have been able to repeat a word that he had said right now. He was distracted, confused, and distracted to be more specific. It was a rare occasion where almost everyone associated with the league was there. The Titans, the Outsiders, even Nightwing. Though what had caught his attention was the Outsiders, most specifically, Speedy. He had been watching the young man for most of the meeting and though he had not licked his lips once, his lips were shiny. He was baffled, and sure he was being an absolutely horrible commander. Thankfully Batman was there.
It wasn’t too long before the meeting had broken from official capacity to a lot of mingling and catching up. Superman almost immediately went over to Speedy, only to be intercepted by Wonder Woman who was wondering if he was okay since he had seemed to be out of it for most of the meeting. He muttered that he was fine and if she could please move. She complied, going over to Batman immediately. She put her arm on his shoulder and didn’t escape Superman’s notice that both Nightwing and the Flash began to glare at her. He chuckled under his breath and continued onward to Speedy. Superman reached him; he was standing kind of off in a corner by himself. Since his only other ally here was currently glaring at Wonder Woman. Superman was supposed to be a boy scout, shy and timid, but somewhere he had gotten a boost in confidence.
He leaned in close to Speedy, pretending to look at the consoles behind him. He smelt a lot of things, some kind of fruity smelling shampoo, he sniffed again, or maybe it was oranges or grapefruits. He smelt the man’s soap and he knew the brand well, it was the same brand the Green Arrow used, it was called Zest or something equally as frivolous as that. But what really caught Superman’s nose was the underlying scent of bubblegum. It wasn’t strong enough to be a cologne or body spray, but it wasn’t faint enough for the main to be chewing the infernal stuff. So it had to be something, but what.
Of course, he should move back soon before people started getting suspicious. To be honest, it didn’t look like Speedy was displeased with the proximity, more like slightly amused that it was there but confused for the same reasons. He smirked a little and watched the man of steel carefully out of the corner of his eye. Apparently they were playing some sort of cat and mouse type game, though Speedy couldn’t for the life of him figure out why. And he was pretty sure that the man of the steel had just smelled his hair. Not even subtly, but sniffed his hair like he was trying to get a read on it… like a god damn blood hound.
Superman stepped back after a few more moments. They had felt like minutes though, Speedy was sure it hadn’t been that long. Superman’s eyes rested on Speedy’s lips-the very thing that had brought him over here in the first place. His lips were still shining. Superman’s eyes narrowed just slightly. Of course, it could be but… Superman licked his lips and cocked his head to one side.
“Speedy…” He asked his voice low to shield his question from anyone who might be listening. It was good though, they were hidden in the shadows because the way Superman said Speedy’s name was anything but innocent. He saw Speedy swallow and an easy smile grace his lips. Superman pressed a little closer, backing Speedy in to a corner between the control panels and the wall. “Are you wearing lip gloss?” He asked. Speedy smirked.
“Why don’t you find out?” Speedy countered his voice silky in the shadows. Superman made a sound in the back of his throat as he watched Speedy’s face for some indication that the younger man was toying with him. Superman weaved his hands in to Speedy’s thick red hair, tilting his head back a little, before claiming his mouth in a hungry kiss. Superman’s first sensation was the taste of the bubblegum (which seemed to be lip gloss from the slightly odd aftertaste), but as soon as Speedy opened his mouth, begging for more, Superman completely pushed the bubble gum out of his mind.
There was something exotic about the way Speedy tasted, something spicy and foreign. He wrapped his arms around Speedy’s lithe waist and pulled him closer, deepening the kiss, pressing the younger man deeper in to the shadows. Speedy moaned in to Superman’s mouth, a quiet, needy sound. Superman let out a shaky breath. This wasn’t the time or place for this, but Superman could barely contain himself. He deepened the kiss again before trailing his kisses down Speedy’s jaw and nick. He sucked on his collar bone. Speedy hissed a little and tightened his grip on Superman.
After another few moments, which had Speedy whimpering in his arms, Superman pulled back.
“Not here, not now.” He whispered, pressing a kiss to Speedy’s temple. “Later. My room.” He said, in a promise for things to come. Superman hoped that no one noticed that the two of them had emerged from such a heavily shadowed area together. Bruce would have noticed if not for the fact that now Nightwing, Flash, and Wonder Woman all seemed to be paying him too much attention. Superman chuckled a little and watched as Speedy went to go chat with Green Arrow. They finally seemed like they were making some progress beyond the wounds of Speedy’s teenage years.
“Does anyone know what happened to my lip gloss?” Huntress suddenly said, loud enough for most people to hear. Some of the heroes looked confused, others just ignored her. Speedy caught Superman’s eyes and gave him a wink. Superman couldn’t help but start laughing.
