I'm typing this to get down in words what's happening and how I feel, though I doubt it'll make it to LJ for a few more days.

Kevin got the old apartment cleaned out and turned in the keys on Friday, so he should get back at least half of the month's rent he paid there.

The new house is big and quite new. Instead of a 95-year-old brick hotel with fir floors and plaster walls, we now live in a 6-month-old stick-built duplex with miles of very blank white walls. The furniture and Kevin's rug fit nicely into the living room, though for the square footage involved, there is precious little closet space. (It doesn't help that I locked the garage key IN the garage and haven't yet gotten hold of the landlord to open it.) We have stacks of stuff here and there, but a lot of it is put away. Funny how more cabinets hold less stuff.

The view is pretty nice. From the kitchen table one can see the mighty Columbia and the Bridge of the Gods, the mountains, and the county yard. The house is on a hill. Uphill from us there is a derelict house amid wildflowers where deer graze. Downhill is the neighbor's vegetable garden and woodpile.

The neighbor is una mujer latina named Maria, whose son is home from Evergreen College in Olympia. Kevin says he's cute; I haven't seen him yet. Maria seems nice. Kevin reports having had conversations with them both, though I am currently so rarely around that I haven't had the chance.

The boss is glad that I'm in town, but of course now he wants me to work more hours -- though he hasn't said so explicitly. The boys are glad I'm in town. We will have to have an open house and have them all over.

I placed an order with EMBARQ (né Sprint), the local phone company here. By Friday we should have a land line with a DSL internet connection as well as satellite TV. I can't tell you how difficult the withdrawal has been from the internet. I know that you guys are all out there rooting for us, but I can't wait until we can communicate more directly again.
