summing up the last 35 years

Recently I was found on facebook by a friend from high school. Not one of those people who happened to go to my school but wasn't a friend (funny how those come out of the facebook woodwork), but a true, dear, close, beloved friend who went to a different school.

I took a theatre workshop before tenth grade, taught by Colleen Thom, the drama teacher at Central High. It happened over the summer at what was then Missouri Western State College. All I remember of it now was the relaxation exercises and singing "If I Only Had A Brain." But Kenton was there, and Terry, and Nancy (I think.) They all went to Central; the nuns had warned us for years of the dangers of bad companions from those godless public schools. They turned out to be great friends. As I told Kenton last week, because of them I still know all the words to Bette Midler: Live At Last and Bernstein's Mass. After high school we drifted apart.

I just spent 90 minutes on the phone with Kenton, telling him the backstory from back in the day and filling him in on what has happened since. How wonderful to hear his voice again, and to know that he has loved me all these years as I have him.

facebook, kenton
