Journeying!

Hi again,

So, tales from the trip across! If you'd like visual aid, and don't have access to facebook, just message me, and I can send you a link to photos.

December 17: Departure day. We really had a challenging time fitting everything into the car. Good with we mailed as much as we did. There wouldn't have been a chance otherwise. We fit more and more into the car, probably a fair bit more than my last trip, and it all somehow fit. But yeah, 13 boxes mailed as well. Moving is expensive.
We actually managed to depart at 1 PM. We wanted to travel as far as we could the first day, so we could be more relaxed afterwards. We ended up driving, without much in the way of breaks except for meals, until we hit Mesquite, NV, a bit after midnight. It was a very long driving day. But it was also a good start to the trip, we went almost 650 miles in one day (starting at 1 PM), covering mostly places we'd been before. We slept extremely well at the hotel that night. Good thing.

Dec. 18: Bryce Canyon. Our goal for the day was to get to Bryce Canyon National Park and explore it. We got off to a bit of a slow start (as we would every single morning of the trip), but had enough time to get the oil changed on the way (it was due), and headed off to Bryce Canyon. We got there in the mid-afternoon. This was a pretty big park, where you could hike between some points, but you'd want to drive between a lot of them. Especially when the snow made hiking difficult. We spent most our time around "Inspiration Point", an aptly named spot, with a spectacular view of spikey things in the rocks. He hiked around the various vantage points near there, trudging through the snow, with the goal of reaching Sunset Point before the sun set. We eventually did, though Sunset Point wasn't all that impressive, or sunset-ish. Still, the afternoon was rather fun, with a fair bit of snowy hiking, some beautiful views, and nice, quiet, outdoors-time. We did a little bit more driving that evening, stopping in the interestingly named and tiny town of Panguitch, UT, for dinner. Most the Panguitch places were closed, so we made do with what we could find, a pizza place. We ended up staying at a Comfort Inn in Richfield, UT that night. This continued the trend of just finding a nice place close to where we were to crash. There wasn't much planning ahead for where to stop, we just went with what the weather and sleepiness allowed. We were somewhat disappointed in the skies. We had heard about how Bryce Canyon was a dark skies location, and we'd hoped to see some spectacular stars. Unfortunately, the clouds didn't agree with this plan, so we were forced to settle for a partial sky of stars on a later night. The sky never was fully clear at any point on the journey.

More to come later....
