A friend asked me to list my top ten favorite books, so here is the list. If you feel like posting yours, I'd love to see your top ten as well. Don't be mad I'm not much of a science fiction reader!
Wow, I have read most of these already. I like your taste, but at the same time wish I hadn't read them so I would have a big list of loved books to devour!
Ah yes well, 10 makes for such a short list! It was hard to choose so I went with ones that created a world for me that I found went on long after the reading was done.
Since you snuck in a series, I will do the same!:)
1) The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas 2) The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas 3) The Lymond Chronicles (6 book series) by Dorothy Dunnett 4) Greenwitch by Susan Cooper 5) The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper 6) The Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia A. McKillip 7) The Changeling Sea by Patricia A. McKillip 8) Red Sky At Morning by Richard Bradford 9) Karlsson On the Roof by Astrid Lindgren 10) Comet in Moominland by Tove Jansson
Honorable mentions: All other books by Tove Jansson All other books by Astrid Lindgren 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
The Lymond Chronicles - Historical fiction set in 16th century Scotland. People often have a hard time getting into them, because they are really densely written and a bit flowery at times, but if you love somewhat flawed, misunderstood, super-witty heroes and seeing real historical characters pop up in historical fiction, you'll love these books! :)
Greenwitch and The Dark is Rising are books #2 and #3 in Susan Cooper's 5-book children's/young adult fantasy series based on Celtic & Welsh mythology. The whole series is good, but I don't like the last book much.
The Forgotten Beasts of Eld is a stand-alone fantasy novel by Patricia A. McKillip, winner of the World Fantasy award & written before McKillip got really into being super obscure and metaphorical. It's really good, recently re-released in a new edition. There's a talking cat!
The Changeling Sea - McKillip's young adult fantasy novel about a girl named Peri who curses the sea after her dad drowns.
Red Sky At Morning by Richard Bradford is a coming-of
( ... )
Oh yes! I've read and loved them both! Somehow the Red Tent reminded me of Skinny Legs and All, the Tom Robbins book about goddess worship among other things. Have you read any of his work? I'm in a love/hate relationship with him.
Interesting list. I've only read about half of those. Just finished Cold Mountain last week... man, that was sad and, yeah, it really made me think about the world it was in.
I don't think I could wrap my head around 10 books and only 10, right now.
I would love to jump in a book group (if invited).
I've been reading The Thirteenth Tale for a Reading Group in Menlo Park that I joined but never go to. It's a good book so far.
