A friend asked me to list my top ten favorite books, so here is the list. If you feel like posting yours, I'd love to see your top ten as well. Don't be mad I'm not much of a science fiction reader!

I loved the Poisonwood Bible. Loved it! Have you read The Red Tent or The Handmaid's Tale?

Oh yes! I've read and loved them both! Somehow the Red Tent reminded me of Skinny Legs and All, the Tom Robbins book about goddess worship among other things. Have you read any of his work? I'm in a love/hate relationship with him.

Oh man, I totally forgot - for the longest time, Robbins' Jitterbug Perfume was a favorite!

I have not! Perhaps I will use my accursed gift certificate to buy new books!

WE SHOULD TOTALLY START A BOOK CLUB.

That's not a bad idea! In fact, I was just talking about that the other day with mzsa.

I'm in for the book club. I'm aware that it will be me and a bunch of girls, but that's OK a long as you don't make me read The Red Tent again. The last book group I was in made me do that, and the experience of defending my entire gender after that decent but estrogen-saturated book made me somewhat more chauvinistic than I had been.

Now I'm inspired to write my own list. Maybe soon...

I too have a love/hate relationship with Tom Robbins. Everyone I ever talk to about him just raves, the worst rave being that "he writes such powerful women". I nodded and walked away, I think, at least in my head I did. ( I am Irina's friend Rebecca, BTW)

I've only read 2-3 of his books. They infuriate me because they are so silly and not particularly beautiful imagery but the plots, for some reason the worlds he creates and the ideas he floats occupy my mind long after the book is done.

I absolutely loved Skinny Legs and All, the inanimate objects were so fabulous, and then I read a few others, and some are good and some were like pulling teeth to get through. Anyway, I would be interested in the book club as well, if there is room after the dust settles.
