[J-Drama review] Kurosagi

2 months ago, I stopped watching Japanese dramas. I used to watch an episode or two a day to pass time while doing my painfully boring physio exercises for my knees. However, once my knees got better in August, I stopped physio and stopped watching. Well now my knees aren't that great again (I'm a cross-legged addict :P ) and thanks to lelola, I ( Read more... )

Yeah, I was "OMG"-ing too, but I'm gonna check it outta curiousity. If you've watched the Joou specials, you know where it stands on teen pregnancy. ;) So I'm wondering if they're going to take the conservative "Pregnancy = Bad! Abort!!" road or a bolder "So you're pregnant, let's work this out into a good thing." Probably a bit of both. :)

Here's a Youtube promo clip if you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95KqloU6AJc Good God, her boyfriend's old, getting Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask vibes. o_O

WILL. THEY. FALL. IN. LOVE?!!!!.

"I am going to HATE this show" and "lelola, I thought we were friends!"

"NOOOOOOOOO!!" Hold me, hold me, hold me senorita! WTF?!!

OMG! XD *falls off her chair with laughter*

I agree with you about the romance. It was kinda pointless. But I am happy that Kurosagi didn't turn lovey-dovey, because that would have made me angry. As for Yukari (Tsurara's friend), I couldn't really stand her. I keep trying to figure out why she was in the series and failing. Also, there was a third female character, a senpai of theirs, but you only see her a few times. I kinda wish she had all the screentime Yukari did.

Granted, most of the cast in this show weren't exactly giving stellar performances either. Agreed. The actress that plays the crazy lady that gets swindled in episode one and goes around screaming "two million" is horrible in Kurosagi. It's weird, because I've seen her shine in another role (ironically, as Yamapi's mother in another drama XD). I blame the director. Or maybe Chapel. It's clearly his ( ... )

HOLY CRAP!! That amazing young actress from Joou no Kyoushitsu is playing a PREGNANT junior high student in her next role??? I thought these kinda topics were taboo in Japan, let alone TV dramas!! Definitely gotta check out this refreshingly bold series and see how far they take the issue. NTV - Starts Oct 11.
I watched teh trailer, and it took me a moment to realize that I recognised the actress from Sapuri (don't watch Sapuri, btw). My mind boogles at her taking on this kind of role, but I look forward to seeing it.

Say, have you read the Kurosagi manga? Is the drama pretty faithful, like is the romance subplot and Yukari there, too? Some of it just felt so by-the-numbers filler that I didn't think any successful mangaka would write like that ( ... )

I've only read the first few chapters, since that's all that's been scanslated. I don't really remember the girls having that much of an established role yet. Hmm. In one of the chapters was a pretty awesome swindle that I wish was in the drama.

There's a lot of comic swindlers, esp the women. That woman that kept picking up pennies annoyed me the most. :P The detective's manic laugh was also a bit too "Dr. Evil" for my tastes.
There seems to be a trend to make "bad" people as abnormal as possible, perhaps to absolve the rest of the population from feeling any connection to them. :/

Inviting Chapel over to watch any Johnny's drama is probably not such a good idea. ;)
Pssht. It would be comedic gold! :D

BTW, have you heard that they're doing Hana Yori Dango 2? And is this a sign of the apocolypse?Yes, ( ... )

The Hold Me, Hold Me, Hold Me thing is sadly nothing new. I remember seeing a VERY TRAGIC episode of Bleach, then, without pause inbetween, the tragic, heartbreaking scene ends and SOS' "Happy People" (the end credits) starts playing. WTF o_0

Sailor Fuko to Kikanjuu...somehow, I am reminded of the first five minutes of MPD Psycho Episode 3...

Yeah, Naruto also changed its OP or ED to something loud and cheerful during the funeral of an important character. Actually, I think it's really common for singers to write the song before even seeing the drama, and that's why they're usually really different. The composers, writers and directors have got to attend the same meetings more often. :P

Apparently, Sailor Fuku is a remake of some 80s or 90s show, so might've seen it before or maybe that one influenced MPD or something. ;)

I'm surprised you didn't have a big birthday, considering you live in the city of awesomeness. ;) Oh well, hope you have a special-er b-day next year!

The new "Expressive" layout rocks! I think you can access it if you upgrade to a Plus account.

I agree with you on the pointless romance part - it really is so unnecessary. I'm watching Kurosagi right now (I paused to watch Engine, which is far better, IMO) and I just can't honestly like it because it's trying to be so many things at once. Are you a cliched romance or a quasi-crime thriller? Make up your mind, damnit.

Once things got moving, I started liking it more. And I sort of like the stupid swindlers, like that Spiritual Sensei guy. They're kind of hilarious.

Your comment about the "HOLD ME HOLD ME HOLD ME SENORITA" thing makes me think the themesong is some kind of ironic self-conscious jab at the total randomness of the romance plot in relation to the swindling plot. Maybe the writers were forced into it, and this is their revenge. An annoying, nonsensical song that has nothing to do with anything. Good job, guys.
