September in Pictures

I can't believe I've passed by this building hundreds of times during my UBC days and never noticed this . .

Anyway, September was rather uneventful, except for two things . .

The Bear Hunt
If you've been around Vancouver in the past couple months, you've probably noticed the spirit bear statues all over the place. With all of them being auctioned off in October, I decided to check out as many as I could before they were removed. While I wasn't able to see all 120 of them, I was able to take pictures of most of the ones downtown.

My Top 5 Favorite Bears:

#5

Brent "The Bear" Butt
Yup, that's the name on the plaque. ^_^ I like this one for its unique look, but a lady passing by found it so ugly that she started laughing and then SPIT ON IT! . . TWICE!! o_O There was actually saliva dripping from the nose, it was disgusting! . . so I decided to window shop at HMV for awhile before taking this shot. ;) BTW, when was downtown Virgin Records bought by HMV?! o_O

#4

Nazzy Bear
Named after the Vancouver Canuck's captain, Markus Nasland, for those who don't follow hockey. I tried to get a pic with it, but it was in-front of a five-star hotel and people were more concerned at waving down taxis than helping out a local tourist. :P

#3

Bat Bear
I wanted to do a superhero pose, but the only one that came to my mind was Hurricane Helms. WAZZUPWITDAT?! ;)

#2

Captains 4 Kids Bear
Striking down good anime everywhere!

And #1!

DARTH BEAR
I tried to think of some kinda pose Darth Vader would do for the camera, and ultimately ended up doing a peace sign. But seriously, can anyone think of a better pose to do in case I see it again before it's removed?

Rather than post the rest of my pictures, check out the official gallery for all the bears and their punderful names

The Sand Sculptures
Every summer, Harrison Hot Springs on the outskirts of Vancouver holds a sand sculpture competition, and this was my first year attending. Since I've never really understood stationary art, I didn't enjoy looking at the sculptures as much as everyone else. It's just that most sculptures were either religious or had mermaids and got boring fast. Still, there were three that I really liked (too lazy to make captions, feel free to help me out :) ):

Also in full attendance at the event were the sand flies. I must have swallowed a few just by walking around!

So many that they sent the spiders packing!

And to close it out, seen at the five-star Harrison Hot Spring hotel . .
