When we last left off, I had hindenburged into bed from the mountains of Yakushima. At 7:30, I came down for breakfast, and I must've been the first one up since no one else was around. ^^v
. . . Turns out I was the last one up. >< The other guests had already eaten and left an hour ago. oO
Since I had forgotten my "super-camera" during the Mononoke hike yesterday, Captain Planet suggested the other spot in Yakushima that looked somewhat similar . . . Yakusugi Land.
But first, another winding bus trip up another mountain . .
Yakusugi Land is famous for Yakusugi cedar trees, many of which are thousands of years old. Being from Canada where there's cedar trees in my backyard, it wasn't exactly enchanting like yesterday's "Mononoke Land." But I'd never gone on a forest hike before, so it was still a really memorable walk.
UNFORTUNATELY, I was once again stuck with a two hour time-limit if I wanted to catch the Jetfoiru back. So the lady recommended I take the 80-minute course . . which would leave me waiting for a bus for over 40 minutes. >< So instead, I challenged my luck, chose the 150-minute see-everything full-course and embarked on my bark adventure!
I somehow managed to take over 100 pictures while on the run (yes, I sprinted through most of it :P ) . . here's the bestest!
The Fred Penner inside me really wanted to crawl through this. ^^
Shortly after that picture, I passed a reststop with two ladies who gasped in amazement as I continued walking on. Sure, I'm a handsome foreigner and all, but then I took a closer look at the map and realized I was about to hike up the 4 km trail to Tachudake Peak. OO; I quickly turned around and took the other path back. ^^;
Can I spot my water bottle? :P It popped out of my jacket and rolled down to the edge of this cliff. I hate litter and was going to attempt to get it, but that probably would've meant littering my body parts across the rocks below. ^^;
I ended up completing the course in under 90 minutes, which I'm quite proud of. ^^b I couldn't believe I was actually early for a change, so I celebrated with some omiyage shopping nearby, then caught the bus back to the hotel to pick up my bags.
TO BE CONTINUED . .
