Where did I leave off?

Since it has been a huge topic of conversation as of late, I thought I would give a furniture update:

Wednesday night we trekked down to Ikea with a brief stop at Red Robin due to hunger pains, and purchased two Ektorp chairs, another ottoman (why not) and the slip covers. After touring the remainder of the store, we went to the warehouse area to pick up the items we could before checking out. We got to the ottoman area and low and behold they had the white slip covers in stock! I did a brief dance of joy in the aisle as I thought I was going to have to drive to Baltimore this weekend to get them there in time for Thanksgiving. Anyways, we checked out, went to the home delivery area and arranged for everything to be delivered to the house tomorrow. Yay!

When we got home (10:00ish) there was a message on the answering machine from Value City. The message went as follows:

"This is...garblegarble....from Value City...garblegarble in Will Call...garblegarble...to arrange deliv...garble..703-998...garble."

I interpreted this to mean that the Value City was calling to state that the couch was available in Will Call (yeah right, I paid for delivery dumbass) or to call to schedule delivery. The store was of course closed at this point so to bed I went slightly filled with glee.

I called the store number I had the following morning and had the following conversation with an idiot:

Idiot: Value City, Falls Church, How may I direct your call?

Me: Yes, I received an incomplete message last night from Will Call and am not certain who I should speak to.

Idiot: Please hold.

Me. holding....

Me: Still holding....clearly he can find no one to help me.

Idiot: What's your phone number?

Me: 000-000-0000

Idiot: Your couch is scheduled for delivery 12/7/04 into the warehouse.

Me: (steam pouring from ears) WHAT? I was told 2 days ago that is was anticipated 11/27, what happened?

Idiot: It probably was damaged when it was received and they had to reorder.

Me: How could it have been received damaged when it wasn't expected in till 11/27. Are you speculating or is that what "your computer" says.

Idiot: uuuuuuuh. I don't know what to tell you lady.

**Rage pours from me along with a diatribe of ramblings regarding customer service and what assuming can lead to, blah, blah, blah**

Me: Here is my cell phone number, when your store manager is available he/she will call me back with an accurate explanation as to why VC is unable to fulfill its commitments and when my couch will be available and why they employ you. Click!

Ok, so I was slightly over the top on the rage, I see that now, but it felt good at the time. BTW, the store manager never called.

Last night when we got home from work there was a message confirming delivery for today between 12:30 - 3:30. Alix and I looked at each other and said "huh?" I called to confirm and it was accurate. The couch was delivered this afternoon by two very nice gentlemen who took extra care to protect the couch from the rain. They worked for an independent contractor which explains a lot. Now we have urgency to get the old stuff out of there, especially with the 2 chairs being delivered tomorrow. We have a guy at the office interested in the recliner, maybe he will take the couch too and then we won't have to take it away ourselves.
