As a temp, I would shuffle into work at 9am, or as late after that as I thought I could get away with. I would do my data entry as time ticked away at the pace of eternity, with frequent breaks to get a snack or check my email or do anything to feel like a human being instead of a database drone. Eventually, lunchtime would come around, and I'd leave a few minutes early and not hurry back, and then return to my drudgery with the weight of time heavy on my forehead. And then, finally, after eons of anxious clock-watching, quittin' time arrives. Or more accurately, ten 'til quittin' time, which was when I gathered up my stuff and bolted out of there like a jackalope.
Now I show up for work promptly at 8:30, go to the morning meeting, and work. And I work, and I work, and I notice that I have rumblies in my tumbly and hey, look at that! Lunchtime already. So I eat some lunch, and then I go back to work, and I work. And sooner than you'd think possible I look up and hey, look at that! Quittin' time! And then I put my head down and go back to work, because the work is not done.
I think I prefer #2, though today was a rather long day.
