I had a pretty last week of freedom. There was crepes, Nutella, single malt scotch, Jonathon Rhys-Meyers in the Tudors night. There was smoking on the roof in the moonlight night. And there was "handling" for fur suiting pandas and eating birthday cake night!
For a birthday celebration I drove a couple of my friends in panda costumes to the Albuquerque Uptown shopping district (the brand new outdoor mall which is like a miniature of Crocker Park in Ohio). We figured that the fancy shops would have attracted a higher quality of people who would not hassle us. We were so right. Nobody hassled the pandas, and they made $6 in the first few minutes as people started giving them dollar bills for getting their pictures taken. It's kind of crazy how much people love pandas. I can understand some of the appeal of suiting now. Everyone was so excited and happy to see a couple of fluffy bear suits walking around. Grown men asked for hugs. Even the security guard was charmed. Merchants asked them to come into the store for photos with the staff. It was kind of amazing how happy it made everyone. Can you imagine walking down a street and having droves of total strangers smiling and being happy to see you?
It was so great. Lots of people took pictures, small children believed they were real, and we ran into our high school theater teacher with his wife having coffee at Borders. Eventually, the head security guy- Giant-Comical-Unibrow-Silly-Hat-Burt told us that we would have to leave because technically we were pandhandling since people were giving us money and taking pictures. Afterwards we drove home and had cake and booze. Mmm...cake and booze.
