not even our troubles. )
Unohana had not always been possessed of the almost unnatural serenity she exuded these days. No, she had never been wild and reckless, but her emotions were not so easily controlled when she had been young. It had been easier to see back then why she generated such fear in those around her. That reputation preceded her to this day, over two thousand years later.
She gladly accepted the tea, and breathed in a bit of the steam. It smelled quite wonderful, as was to be expected. Unohana looked up when Isane offered her the snacks, and lightly collected a few of the jellies into one hand, and chuckled at the comment over normal dinnertime.
"As rare as normality has become these past few days, I find I am unsurprised." She popped one of the jellies into her mouth, and savoured the sweetness a little longer than necessary before she swallowed. "But that hardly means that we should not seek to find bits of it where we can. In family, in friends . . ."
She worked a small lilt into that last word, certain that Isane would catch it. A suspicion had worked its way into her mind the day before the creatures were first spotted, when she'd noticed Isane was awkward and flustered in a very recognizable manner that evening. Perhaps it was time for confirmation.
And such a conversation would give the air of normalcy, would it not?
