Pam Moment of the Day: Spirituality Lessons

Jul 28, 2009 17:07

I'm not particularly close to most of my coworkers, though a couple are pretty friendly with me, but the maintenance, delivery and security staff love me. I have pleasant conversations with them daily, and there is one security guard who is especially interesting. His name is Victorious, and he is from Ghana. The man has three of four jobs, and he is happy and smiling all the time. No, he is not pretending to be happy, despite a bad mood. He really is that excited about life and everything it entails.

Every day after lunch, I have to go get the mail. I make a big circle out of my route, and each afternoon, I hang out with Vick and talk about all sorts of things, from traveling and work to philosophy and life. He told me one day that I had a good heart, and I was his best friend at the office. He prays for me every day. He also said he could tell how strong a woman I am, and how lucky Nick and I are to have one another. Vick gives me spiritual and emotional lessons every day through conversation. He talks about how Nick will find work, and how wonderful it is that he cooks and cleans to contribute. He tells me about how he's starting a farming supply company in Africa, and he tells stories of the different people he has met. We talk about traveling, and he always mentions how even the darkest times will soon pass over. Life is good. Be thankful. We are blessed. There's no need to be angry or sad all the time. Be happy.

I honestly get more out of hanging with Vick than I ever did at any church. He even throws God talk in, and it only makes him seem more genuine. He has a thick accent, making the dialog a little tough at times, but I think it adds to his personality. Vick is cool, and I have no problem taking longer than the average receptionist to get the mail, just so I can chat with my buddy.
