So I have been a vegetarian for 13 years. And recently, I've seriously been considering going vegan. It'd be pretty easy since I have a raw food grocery store within walking distance and live in a pretty adventurous part of Los Angeles that offers at minimum three vegan restaurants.
But my question is: How hard was it for you to initially find things to eat that was out of the realm of fruits & veggies? Also, is there some type of pocket guide I could carry around to check ingredients to make sure its actually vegan? I've heard a lot of the veggie burgers & soy substitutes that claim are vegan aren't actually vegan. Also, I make a decent living, but I don't have a money tree growing in the alley behind my building. So what's the cheapest way to do this? My biggest concern, sadly, is that I don't like beans. And I know they're a major source of protein.
Help? Ideas? Suggestions?
