☁ CANON:
Maya Fey ☁
(Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney)
Before her badly-timed departure back to her hometown after the resolution of the DL-6 case, Maya Fey was -- and still is, really -- Phoenix's loyal legal assisstent and a chipper provider of moral support, especially in the months following the death of Phoenix's mentor and Maya's older sister, Mia Fey. Maya is the closest thing Phoenix has to a family (at his point in canon), and he looks at her as being not only one of his best friends, but as a little sister, as well. And being the good older brother figure he is, Phoenix is highly protective over her and will not hesitate to put his own life in danger for her if the need arises. (This tends to give Phoenix a LOT of gray hairs, considering her aptitude for attracting trouble wherever she goes.)
Maya has since disappeared (dropped), and Phoenix has been left with her starter Pokémon, Pearly the Mismagius, to care for.
Larry Butz ☁
itsthebutz (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney)
"We should do this Pokémon Adventure thing together. It'll be like old times! ... Only in real life."
Looking at the super-serious Phoenix and the goofy, flirtatious Larry, anyone would have to wonder how on EARTH these two are friends -- and best friends, at that. Phoenix has known Larry since the fourth grade, and the two of them, along with Edgeworth, became fast friends and remained close even after the third member of their friendship circle disappeared. While his outward attitude towards Larry seems to constantly be exasperated, Phoenix knows that the man means well, and always does his best to get him out of whatever trouble he manages to get himself into. It's good to see a familiar face that isn't stuffy and pompous (i.e, Edgeworth), and while Phoenix has a sinking feeling that he's going to have his work cut out for him now that Larry is here, he's looking forward to travelling with his best friend.
Miles Edgeworth ☁
miniworth (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney)
"So. You're... Wright. That Wright?"
...excuse me WHAT. The last time Phoenix saw Edgeworth, he was complaining about the smell his newly evolved Gloom was making -- before dropping off the face of the earth and causing Phoenix to flip his shit. But then, out of nowhere, he's back...and a good fifteen or so years younger. In all honesty, Phoenix isn't entirely sure what to make of the situation, especially considering the rather delicate time frame this Miles comes from. On the flip side, though, this is his chance to see Miles during the time period where he was missing in action, immediately following DL-6 and before the child Phoenix had really processed the fact that his best friend had disappeared. All of this coupled together has lead to considerable awkwardness in their interactions so far, but Miles is still Phoenix's friend, and hopefully things will warm up between the two as their journey goes on.
Ema Skye ☁
pinvestigation(Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney)
"Well, you look like the same trampled-on guy you used to be if it's any consolation."
The last case Phoenix solved before his arrival in Johto was that of Ema's sister, Lana. So, really, his most distinct memories of home are the ones of the three days he spent running around town with the then teenage science afoncienado, accusing police chiefs of murder and attempting to prevent the resignition of Prosecutor Edgeworth.
But, uh. Sure, his most recent assistant is now here in Johto, but she's a whooole lot older than he's used to. He had Edgeworth disappear and return younger, but he's never experienced the opposite. Whatever the age difference, though, Phoenix is still fond of her, although her new, slightly prickly attitude will take some getting used to.
Kay Faraday ☁
yattagarasu (Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth)
"Handle your Pokéballs veeeery carefully and you should be fine."
What can Phoenix say about Kay? She's a chipper, eccentric young girl who claims to be Edgeworth's assistant, and damn it all if Phoenix just can't quit the teenage girl sidekicks can't help but be drawn to her cheery, optimistic attitude. Not only does he admire her apparent emotional strength and moral compass (even if it is a bit...skewed when it comes to the rules), her attitude reminds him of Maya, and we all know Phoenix latches onto those that act like his perky assistant. Kay has also helped him out when it comes to his stupid Pokegear, and gave him some tips on what his Wooper can and can't do.
...he IS a bit phobic of Pokemon Centers because of her, though.
Phoenix's Quagsire, Butch, and Kay's Wooper, Flapper, recently had a little of Wooperlings, and one can say that the sudden grandparenthood has brought them closer...sort of. The five eggs have been given to Kaito Kuroba, Miles Edgeworth, Dick Gumshoe, The Eleventh Doctor, and Vera Misham.
Trucy Wright ☁
magictricking (Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney)
"... You look like you did when I met you."
Suddenly aquiring a daughter was...certainly a surprising experience for 25-year-old-bachelor Phoenix. Despite the sudden aquisition and confusing circumstance that no one has yet bothered to completely inform him about, Phoenix has found that he's warming up to Trucy quickly. She's bright and cheery, and an incredibly talented magician to boot. He enjoys spending time with the quirky teen, and definitely wants to find out more about her -- both as a friend and, eventually, as a father, even if it might take some time.
Trucy disappeared in November. This...really, this totally kicked Phoenix's paternal sirens into gear, and made him realize that he's grown far more fond of Trucy than he would like to admit, freaking out all over the network and trying desperately to find her. She returned ahort thereafter however, but with a heavy dose of amnesia; she doesn't remember any of her old Pokémon, nor does she recall having met this Phoenix before. He doesn't particularlly mind, really, although it's strange having their initial situations somewhat reversed.
Pearl Fey, "Pearls" ☁
(Phoenix Wright: Justice for All)
Little Pearl is shy, sweet, and what would appear to be a star-crossed romantic who ships himself and Maya together. Hard.
...okay, no.
Phoenix likes Pearls, although her neverending needling about his "special someone" bothers him, considering how good of a friend he considers Maya to be...and how hard he's trying to not develop feelings for her, or for anyone, for that matter. The incident with Dahlia had led him to be so incredibly wary of relationships that Pearls's manner only serves to worry him. What happens in the future that would change his ideals to the point where he and Maya really were "special someones?"
Pearls as since disappeared (dropped). She and Maya both vanished at about the same time, so he can onlyhope that wherever they are, they're looking out for each other and keeping safe.
Apollo Justice ☁
justicepuns (Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney)
"I'll avoid anything that looks like a mongoose, then. I'd rather not have my badge stolen, even if it won't get much use here."
Lawyers gotta stick stogether, and stick together they certainly have! While Phoenix has only just met Apollo, the man's attitude is a breath of fresh air, considering the amount of Cloudcukoolanders he has to deal with every single day. Apollo claims to know Phoenix in the future, and the man is definitely curious...although something about Apollo's manner while prying on that subject makes Phoenix only a little wary. Trucy had said that he was different from the Daddy he was in her time, and if Apollo is from the same time period, then there might be something about him that the two don't want him to know.
...regardless, they've become quick pals, and he's also grateful towards Apollo for travelling with little Miles until Phoenix's group could meet up with them in Cherrygrove.
Hershel Layton ☁
profpuzzle (Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney)
"I could say the same for you, Mr. Wright. You had quite the talent of flipping the tables on me."
The Professor...was someone Phoenix was definitely NOT expecting to see again, considering the events of Labyrinth City and all. But regardless, he's pleased to see his frenamie again, and holds the man in similar esteem as he does the older Edgeworth (minus the whole...classamtes fifteen years ago thing). Phoenix has always appreciated the Professor's kind-hearted, intelligent nature, and hopes that he can get to know Hershel better now that they're not of opposite sides of the medevil courtroom.
Dick Gumshoe ☁
guyyoucantrust (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney)
"A-alright pal. Just please don't give me the bug eye like that."
Kristoph Gavin ☁
bottletothehead (Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney)
"I'm afraid that's the case here. Otherwise it'd be quite unnerving for me that you don't recognize your old friend."
OH HEY THIS IS A NICE MAN WHO SAYS HE'S A DEFENSE ATTORNEY FRIEND FROM MY FUTURE! This can only mean good things, right?
Well, no, not exactly, since Kristoph is a lying murderous dirtbag who secretly hates Phoenix's guys! Why so hated, Phoenix?
The Judge ☁
judge_clueless(Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney)
"EGADS! Mr. Wright! There's a giant wombat on your shoulder!!"
Phoenix has just one word to say about the fact that the Judge is here.
What.
Machi Tobaye ☁
pollyanna_boy (Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney)
"You... could say that. Both Trucy and Apollo... found the truth. That is what they do, yes?"
Machi is a sweet boy, and while Phoenix has only talked to him a handful of times, he can't say anything bad about what he's seen so far. He's aware that Machi was a client of Apollo's, which also earns him a spot on Phoenix's "people to get to know/respect" list, as a client of Apollo's is a client of his!...sort of.
Regardless, Phoenix likes Machi in his own right, and wouldn't might getting to know the kid a bit more.
Iris ☁
usedsubstitute (Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations)
"It was never my intent to upset you. But, I'm afraid, the truth is something I..I can't tell you."
It wasn't enough that Dahlia had to appear in Johto.
No, the world just HAD to throw in her identical twin sister, didn't it...?
Phoenix has absolutely no idea what to think of Iris. The situation surrounding himself, Iris and Dahlia has been cleared up thanks to Detective Gumshoe, who explained it all to this poor 1-5 version of Phoenix, and the fact that it was this girl, Iris, whom he was actually dating...it was a huge bombshell to drop on the poor guy, and he isn't even close to getting used to it. She's exactly the same as he remembers her, but even if some part of him is yearning for the girl he's always loved...both Iris and Dahlia terrify him at the moment. He's so wary of Iris, of what else she might be hiding, if she might hurt him like her sister did -- which are farily justified worries, considering her sister. For now, he's going to try his best to get to know her (again), but...he won't be able to relax at all around her until Dahlia is put behind bars.
Shelly de Killer ☁
shellderkillder(Phoenix Wright: Justice for All)
"... I understand. Is this where we part ways... Mr. Attorney?"
...so, wait, wait, let me get this straight. The nice, polite old man who called himself Mr. Doe, instead of being the socially awkward recluse everybody thought he was, is actually an assassin-for-hire who kidnaps Maya in Phoenix's future and starves her for three days?
...well, he's still a socially awkward recluse, but Phoenix can't really bring himself to like the guy anymore. He has yet to experience the trial Shelly is involved in for himself, so he knows it wouldn't be fair of him to automatically despise the man because of something that, for him, hasn't actually happened yet. However, the degree of fear Pearls and Maya have exhibited towards him is enough to put Phoenix on edge, not to mention the startling 180 his personality performed once he told Phoenix his true identity. The future of their friendship is uncertain, but it's not entirely impossible that they won't, somehow, make up.
