went to my systematic class for the first time today. i stayed behind and talked with the professor about one of his pet topics, post modernism. i don't think i was sucking up near as much as i was interested in what he had to say. but i must confess that since i have approximately 3 more semesters in this program i am conscious of the need to impress and form some kind of relationship with some of the faculty before i leave this school.
good recommendations from this institution school must be acquired if i am serious about furthering my academic career. i, however, am not out feigning interest in professors so that i might seduce them into helping me out. but those professors who i both like and have an interest in their work are indubitably the ones i need to charm and impress, so i see nothing wrong with deliberately seeking to do so. that does not mean i'm looking to use or make a tool out of any professor. i am simply a student courting them for their favor as my teachers, mentors, and academic benefactors.
