When I was a kid each year my mom would buy me a box of Valentines of my choice to distribute to my classmates, as was required. Each year I'd carefully save a few so that, as years went on, I had more and more variety to choose from. Perhaps I'd give Jenny a Sesame Street card or Sarah the ones from last year with kittens. Dude, seriously. I felt that same way for such a long time (well, maybe not the same way). People would buy those stupid candygrams and crap for the minimum amount of effort, and everybody would get all weepy "Ooh, I got something!"

Then one year, I got something. I was totally confused, because I wasn't even dating anyone for real.

On the other hand, the girl had gone out of her way to buy something not available from the student council. That counted for something.

I, on the other hand, despise Valentine's Day, perhaps because it's so FAKE for so many people. At least you treat it like real.
