After all this time, he was still the same old Johnny.
Very nice take on challenge number 4. Very dark, and I like that we see Weir having problems with what happened in The Storm and The Eye. Really like that John was there to help her out. Well done!
I'm very glad you liked it! As soon as I saw the challenge, I knew I wanted to do something with psych trauma (I know, I'm strange that way). We never really see the aftermath of events in SGA, and I think it's something with a lot of room for exploration. Weir isn't superwoman, but she really has to appear to be given realities of women in authority. I wanted to show that even she breaks down in messy and unhelpful ways. I'd originally wanted to do this in a Rashamon style, 4 POVs on the same evening, but that just wasn't happening.
Very true that SGA (and SG1 for that matter) don't go into the aftermath of stuff. I think that is why so many people like BSG, because they show the darker side of things a lot more.
I've already been receiving interest in continuation of this in one or another, so I may very well be exploring more of Elizabeth's psych traumas. By the beginning of Season 3 she's certainly had enough fodder for a few more, and the one on Earth isn't likely to be a completely isolated incident.
One of the things that the show just really doesn't address is the effect of the constant crises and near-death-experiences on the mental states of the populations. They're much luckier than the Vietnam Vets in that respect.
May the ancestors have mercy on their souls if they ever transfer *out* of SGC & associated projects, because after a few years in Atlantis or on an SG-team your definitions of normal and normal behavior and reactions to specific types of stimuli are just going to be
