Wheatley's Hacking Methods

Jul 20, 2011 20:40

These are all the hacking methods that Wheatley uses in Portal 2.  I tried my best to get them all, but I might have missed some or messed up the details on these.

There are spoilers for various parts of Portal 2 in here, so please don't read unless you want spoilers.

Manually overrides a wall by smashing the Relaxation Vault into it.

Opens up a control panel in the wall and uses the control stick in it to open up a section of the wall after Chell turns around.

Turns on the lights, but then the base rotates and rises upwards. Wheatley tries to slow it but instead makes it go faster. All the switches are flipped in the process.

Wheatley tries to hack GLaDOS' password with "AAAAAA" and "AAAAAC", skipping over 'AAAAAB" and telling Chell to keep a list. He fails and GLaDOS turns on.

When he's on the nanobot work crew, it seems like he slows down the elevator so that he can talk to Chell.

Wheatley is able to turn off the lights and open up a section of wall to get Chell out of test chamber 21. He also moves another section of wall and activates a Hard Light Bridge for Chell to walk on. When she's safely on a catwalk, he deactivates the bridge and closes the wall behind them.

Hacks the turret control center door by smashing into the glass. He asks Chell to turn around beforehand. He says it's technical.

Wheatley goes to hack the exit door of the turret control center, saying it looks more complicated than he thought and it'd take about ten minutes and for Chell to keep her eye on the door. It opens nearly as soon as he stops talking. He appears to just look back and forth as he's "hacking".

Wheatley finds that the neurotoxin generator control computer is password protected and has alarm bells. He says he can handle it, however all he does is talk to the computer and use various strange bribes to try to get it to give him control. Wheatley doesn't seem to be looking at the computer as he speaks to it. He says the hardest part of hacking is the beginning stage.

In order to get to the vital maintenance protocols he uses a similar hacking method to the one he used to try and stop GLaDOS from waking up. He tries AAAAAA and AAAAAB, then goes ABCDGH and apparently gets in. Once in, he deletes the Reactor Core Emergency Heat Venting Protocols. He immediately regrets this and looks for the undelete button.

information, wheatley
