What I Saw: Mad Men Season 5, Episode 8

May 07, 2012 21:54

Megan says "Good bye" to all that Advertising Sh*t. "I am going to be an ACTRESS!"

But there is all that play-acting in advertising. Michael and Stan are putting on a show for Cool Whip on the left.

Megan says, "I am going to be a REAL ACTRESS!"

...........
"On the Broadway! Or Off Broadway! Or TV! Or on a TV Public Service Announcement!"

OK, Megan. Good Luck to you and your REAL ACTING Career.

Remember that Actress in the first season of Mad Men? She was a telephone operator at the Old Ad Agency (whose name I don't even remember at this point). And now she is Flow of Progressive Insurance.

So, is she not a REAL ACTRESS, Megan? Her name on Mad Men was Marge.

This is Marge:

And is "Marge" another NOT REAL ACTRESS, Megan?

Ok, "Marge's" name was really "Madge", but like Flow, she was very popular. Is Mr. Wiener on to something? Is the ESP strong in him?

The Supers Are in Their Phone Booths

Mad Men is doing a lot of Superman jokes this season.

Superwoman, Megan, is in her phone booth changing from her career as a Mild Mannered Orange Sherbet of an Advertising Girl and Wife to SUPER REAL ACTRESS!

In the office, Mild Mannered Megan is in her sky scrapper office uniform disguise:

Note the check on her tailored dress and the reflecting checks of the windows in the window. This is Mild Mannered Megan's Chameleon Disguise Dress. When she stands in front of one of the many windows in SCDP, no one can even See Her. Ask Harry about this.

Then Megan changes into her SPECIAL SUPER POWERED REAL ACTRESS AUDITION Dress. Who is that Girl Passing by? Is she a Bird or a Chick or a Doll? Note Megan's Special Super Power Color---the bright read or orange clothes bag draped (Mrs. Draper, haha) on her arm.

Then Super Pete (who may or may not be a Super Jerk, it all depends upon the time of day) is in the phone booth, trying to persuade Beth to let him unleash his Super Power of the Penis. It impregnated Peggy with just one swipe.

Or, that is a guy in Orange behind Pete and it is not Megan, Super Real Actress. Could it be a Criminal in Orange? Is Pete attempting to transform into his Super Power to catch the Criminal? Or is Pete in Jail, bound by Convention? Can Pete use his Super Power Penis to bust loose?

I guess that we will never know now. Clark Kent, disguised as Media Man aka Harry Crane, demands the use of the phone booth so that he can transform into TV Crane, the master mind and programmer of Mind Blowing TV for the Consumer.

Stay Tuned Folks! It is like the Advertising Avengers!

I know, different comic book franchises, but no one cares if there is enough action and bulging thighs!

Don/Dick Has a WTF? Moment

Don/Dick is hanging around the elevators by the SCDP Office because his sharp mind has finally figured out how all these Super People and Pete are leaving the building to perform their Super ACTING and SEDUCING.

They are using the Elevators!

But they are cleverly not really using the elevators. They are using the Elevator Shafts!

Yep, Don/Dick is the one to figure this out, and how you ask.

Come on! Dick? Dick is the name. Shaft is the Dick, shut your mouth! And that Shaft is one long and lonely Vagina which makes it hard to crawl back up in there. Fuck This! Shaft, Dicks and Pussies in the Well. This is a very Adult show. Shut your mouth, Vagina Virginia.

Ken Cosgrove Can Write and That is All

I am sorry to say that Ken Cosgrove is NOT very talented. He can write---he can Say the Words. But can Ken Dance the Dance?

Really Ken? Do you think that song is as good a Beethoven's Ninth that you wrote about?

Ken has no rhythm or musicality. Michael can't even watch Ken Dance. It hurts his Heart so much.

All that dancing makes Ken a thirsty boy.

Back to Megan's REAL ACTING

Megan can ACT. Here she is doing a ventriloquist dummy act with Don/Dick:

You can tell that Megan is ACTING because she is wearing her Super REal Acting Costume.

Then later, Don/Dick and Megan do their Ventriloquist/Dummy act in bed:

This time, Don/Dick plays the Dummy. See how much lower he is? Megan is in her SUPER POWER ACTING mode.

Now Megan is practicing her SUPER ACTING ability on Peggy and the Ad Gang. She is so good that it is not even technique any more. It is ART! SUPER ART! See how even the wall reflect her SUPER ART OF ACTING! Stan is so Jealous.

Megan Looks Good in Clothes

Here is Megan in a snazzy green patent leather or vinyl raincoat. The elevator door will soon close on her and her career at SCDP.

Here is Megan in her Engagement Coat. She wore this in Don/Dick's flashback in the last episode. It is covering up her SUPER ACTING Costume. Megan is exiting yet another door. Did you notice? Megan was always exiting doors in this episode or standing in front of one. I guess that this is foreshadowing The Doors' hit song, People are Strange.

Peggy Looks Good As Upholstery

Super Pete

Pete uses his newly acquired Super Power to DRive a Car to seduce his Train Companion's Wife. Oh you Sly Super Shag Dog Pete!

Pete considers using Lipstick as part of his Super Power Disguise. Everyone will be looking at his luscious lips and his Vacant Earth Eye Orbs and NOT be able to identify him as a Philanderer. And that is a Good Disguise. I almost thought that he was one of the young girls whom he likes to seduce and rape.

The Super Power of Pete's Penis must be trained and fortified with Long Hard Skis.

It confuses me too, Pete.

Pete reads The Crying of Lot 49 on the train. It is the best book that Thomas Pyncheon ever wrote. It is the only book that he ever wrote that I could read all the way through. And I've read it twice, I just might read it again. I like it. It is all about a dread and convoluted conspiracy that has been brewing through the ages through the mail services of Thurn and Taxis (there is actually a German Prince who is named this and his mom is best friends with the Pope so the Nazis were involved in this too) and the Pony Express and the US Postal Service. Nothing much gets resolved at the end, at least in a Jacobean Tragedy, everyone dies horribly in the end, but no one dies in this one. It is sort of a Jacobean Comedy type novel. This is a good novel for Pete to read, because he thinks that everyone is out to get him. In the novel, everyone was out to get the heroine. This should give Pete some Cold Comfort.

Don/Dick at the End

The ending image of this episode:

reminded me of the end of the first episode of Man Men:

There has been a great change in Don/Dick's life during these five seasons.

The women in Don/Dick's life are moving on. Megan is doing what she wants to do. Betty doesn't even know What she wants to do. Old Age can be lonely.

The Moral of This Episode

From the conversation between Harry and Pete:

Pete: "They (women) do whatever they want, even to Draper. We're just there waiting at attention. Turn it off and on, when they feel like it. That's not the way it's supposed to be. Do they make you feel small and insignificant?"

Harry: "No, Jennifer does that to me."

Pete: "Why do they get to decide what's going to happen?"

Harry: "They just do."

The words of wisdom from Harry, of all people. I like him.
