I didn't have friends before I came here. ...like a lot of other things. I never thought of losing them. It's hard not to when you've never had something to begin with. It didn't happen for long this time. People shouldn't be lonely, that's why we make friends and have families. Right?

Did everyone else came back after the graveyard?

friends, justin, outside her bedroom, join the living

I'm sorry it happened at all. I meant it when I said I would be more careful.

I don't think everyone is back yet--not the way they should be.

I know. You wouldn't lie to me. Will you tell me what happened?

...Okay then. It can't be that bad. You're back. Right?

Right. You're right.

Can we walk while I tell you? In the garden?

I'd like that. This must be very bad then.

[For some reason, it's much easier to talk when they're moving--when there's something else to pay attention to. Just sitting and talking is too difficult. Too much attention is focused in one place.

And, honestly, Justin is stalling. The few minutes between the apartment and the garden aren't a lot of time, but they're something.]

[There's nothing she can ask more for the moment. He is going to tell her. That's the important part. Shilo follows his pace. She tries to keep her mind clear and not to allow herself to worry or panic. The end of the story is right beside her.]

[At least Shilo doesn't look upset. That's important. Justin is tired of hurting her; now that he has his life back, there will be no more recklessness.

The garden is quiet and calm. In spite of the late time of season, there are flowers blooming. There's always something blooming in the City. Justin takes a moment to enjoy the heavy scent of flowers and the slight warmth of Shilo next to him. He could sense things just as well dead, of course, but sensation has a richness to it now.

After trying to figure out how to start, he comes to conclusion that there's no better way to explain what happened than to begin at the beginning.]

...Do you want to know why I was digging?

[The garden is as beautiful as ever. She loves being here. The times they've spent here have been serene, carefree.

Shilo studies Justin's face and motions.]

You wanted to see if there was a connection with the bodies in the graveyard.

[If memory serves her right.]
