thats a whole 'lotta camera! its a good price for 7 megapixels and a screen that size. the 4 AA batteries might make it a little on the heavy side, but it looks like a good buy. i'm sure you'll get a feel for the camera and takes lots of amazing pictures!

HmmmHmm do you think it's a good idea having a camera that size if I'm going to be travelling with it?
PS: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REPLYING. I didn't really think anyone would.
Someone in my last post recommended this http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilmf30/
I'm a camera idiot, so I don't really know.
Also, you take awesome pictures. Did your camera cost over $350? Feel free to reccomend me cameras for under that price. I am inexperienced and kind of want someone who knows what they are talking about to point me in the right direction.
I <3 you

of course! any way i can help. well its really depends on how you plan on using the camera - the one you posted is a digital SLR meaning you can change the aperture (how wide the lens opens to let light through), and the shutter speed. these two functions allow you to adjust manually to the different light situations you may encounter (digital SLR's also have automatic settings). where on the other hand, http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilmf30/ <-- this one is for the most part automatic, allowing you to shoot basically two ways: with flash and without flash. this is helpful for what is called "point-and-shoot" photography thats is carefree & doesnt' have the fuss of, well...setting settings!

this little guy is my camera:

Oh gosh, this might sound silly, but you have no idea how much that comment meant to me! Haha!
That was pretty much amazing and exactly what I was looking for.
You were able to provide a marvelous amount of information, that I can understand, with a looming deadline, :p.
No but seriously, thank you times a million. I really wish that that Fuji camera didn't have that battery deal, because like you said, the feel of it is important, and I really did like that one in that respect.
Well, gosh, Eva. <3333

i looked into it, it looks like a really nice camera. it's similar to my old nikon coolpix camera that i had before i got my slr. i had a fuji finepix once and i hated it but don't let that discourage you... mine was from like 2002 and it had 2 megapixels at most and it was terrible and shaped like a box. the one you're interested in seems really nice! the quality of the photos should be great from the 7 megapixels. the only downside seems to be using AA batteries and not a rechargeable one.

i'm more knowledgable on nikon cameras and slr's in general but if you have any more questions about cameras i'll be glad to help if i can:)

Ahhh thank you Rachel!
I felt so dumb at the store the other day because I was like "Umm, well I think it looks nice" but I haven't really had much to compare it with, and I didn't want to just throw my money down the drain. The downside of the non-rechargble batteries kind of sucks so I guess it kind of comes down to determining if that's worth it or not

Thank you for replying times a MILLION! :D

I missed your reply.

Here's some photos taken with a Fuji F30. Some are from my work trip to the UK and some are inside candids of the kids. The indoor shots are at ISO 400 and if you look at full resolution there's very little noise. 5x7 prints look excellent.

Oh, and I don't mean to be snobby, but the Sony mentioned above is not a "digital SLR". The manual settings mentioned and being described as "SLR" are two different things. A digital SLR has interchangable lenses and more specifically the viewfinder image is actually looking through the lens, hence the definition of "Single Lens Reflex". The Sony is also a "point and shoot" although a little more advanced. It has full manual control as well. The Fuji I have does not have full manual control (allowing you to set both aperature and shutter speed) but does allow both aperature-priority and shutter-priority shooting. Namely you can set one and the camera will choose the other. Since you say you don't know much about cameras, manual features should not be a deal breaker for you ( ... )

Oh, and one last thing. I agree with the comments about rechargable AA batteries. They can be a pain. I use a 1GB card with the F30 which is about 580 photos at 6MP, std quality. We have yet to run out of battery before filling the card. In fact I can only recall the battery level dipping below "full" two or three times. I am very happy with the battery life.

There's only two things I don't like 1. the computer cable is not a standard Type B mini USB. It's a special Fuji cable. So if you lose or forget it, you won't be able to just pick one up anywhere, you'll need to find a way to get the Fuji one. Or simply buy another memory card 2. it takes XD cards. They're a little more expensive ($10) and less readily available than SD cards.

Hi - I just saw your entry in Selfportraits - did you ever buy this camera. If not, I'd say get a point and click instead. The camera you use the most is the one that you have on you most often.
