Went downtown for taffeta today and indulged some in other fabrics as well. Now my big question is: medieval or artistic reform??

I just finished a tiny bonnet for Ashley out of black satin with cat ears for her! It's lined in two layers of pink flannel purloined from a sacrificed receiving blanket, and the ears are lined in pink dupioni. It's pretty cute, if I say so myself. Pics later.

I just sewed the sleeve of Emily's witch costume in without turning it first. Doh!!!

To say that I HATE tailored sleeeeves. They are totally evil! I just set in sleeve shape variant no. 5, and it will have to do. This is what I get for not using a pattern and not being a great seamstress.

This is why I love fantasy sleeves; flowy, untailored, lots of gathers.........

My first toile fits almost perfectly!!!!! It just needs some changes in the shoulder slope to make it work ( Read more... )

Last night, DH scanned a pattern for me from Janet Arnold for one of the Snowshill jackets. We scaled up the pattern using XNView, then printed it. Our printer is capable of splitting large images into several pages. After printing, I just had to line them up, tape, and cut! Voila!
I now have a full sized pattern to work with. It's pretty tiny, but ( Read more... )

= I can still wear my blue fantasy dress!!! So I can take it to Baycon.

I have one new costume in a wearable state of finish, and one that I've only just begun.

Even if I do nothing more, I still have stuff to wear! yay =)

Anybody have a good trick for softening coarse linen??

I picked up some 100% linen that felt soft on the bolt, but after washing twice in cold and once in hot, it's still pretty stiff. It's heavy, maybe heavier than suiting.
