I've been home almost a week. Almost. I have three months. Three LOOOOONG months during which I need to make some money and do something meaningful that will further my career path to becoming a medical physician. Well, I think I'm too young for paid internships in my field, especially with my... stellar grades. Three months is twelve weeks. I have spent the first week doing pretty much nothing but catching up on movies I've missed the past year (and before), watching season finales of certain TV shows, etc. I've even been too lazy to make social calls, so I have only been waiting for other people to call me. I wish they would call more, but I guess everyone else feels the same, as they have also just survived a grueling year.
SO, next week, we are going to try a new approach: be un-passive.
I wish I could make those advertisements go away. I didn't need them in the first place.
Funny thing... I wished for all this freedom & now that I have it, I don't know what to do with myself. I remember one summer when I was 14, I couldn't work, couldn't really review for anything because I was going into high school, and Elim *** entered the world ***, so I was stuck at home. Carless, jobless, listless. Miserable. So I have to keep myself busy and work. There's really no better alternative. Guess I don't mind; life's not perfect.
Maybe I should try making a reading list of all the books I want to get through this summer. Like finishing Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. Pride & Prejudice, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS July 21st woot woot, Z€en and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Trial, collected works of Sylvia Plath, The Body Thief, Wicked, etc. So I'll get through it.
Also, it would be good to learn how to cook. And drive, for that matter, even though I would not really have a car at my disposal.
That advertisement thingy is really getting on my nerves, but I'm not sure what I can do it about it short of getting a new LJ account, and throwing away all my past entries. No, I don't think I could do that.
I realllyyyyy don't want to unpack, because it would mean cleaning the study, and my room, and the sunroom, and the family room & I'd rather not at this point.
Movie reviews:
Ocean's 11 - Great movie. Opening scene reminded me of Blues Brothers (which I have not seen to completion yet), Julia Roberts looked like her role, Clooney & Pitt are brilliant. Very clever, suspenseful, extremely entertaining, funny, not too involved. Don't think it's timeless, though.
The Prestige - Christian Bale is amazing, what can I say? Absolutely brilliant and mind-boggling. Extremely, extremely ingenious. Gave me goosebumps. Wasn't as entertaining the second time, though. Ending was also a little unbelievable, but still very well-conceived.
Happy Feet - A kid's movie. And not very satisfying, at that. Elim seems to like it, so I guess it wasn't a waste.
A Series of Unfortunate Events - Loved the artistic style of it, which was kind of like James & the Giant Peach meets The Corpse Bride meets the Harry Potter series. Story was original, funny, not too involved, and had a good message.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose - Pretty scary. Not on the A-list for horror movies, but holds its own, especially since it is based on a true story. Powerful message, interesting court room - typical horror format. B-list actors and actresses, and probably not a huge budget either, but really not bad.
The Devil Wears Prada - Love the clothes! Cute story, great message, not exactly a chick flick, but not exactly Academy Award material either. Not too many tricks or surprises in it, but still very funny, entertaining, and pretty. Meryl Streep is incredible.
The Matrix: Revolutions - The war drama tension was moving, but the rest of it kind of fell flat. No closure regarding Neo, though I think to the people of Zion, he's dead (what were you really expecting?). Not as interesting as the first two, because it ran out of steam. Not bad overall.
