Notes: First fic for the show. Random thing my head didn't want to leave... hope it makes sense :DDD

They are sitting in silence.
Back to back. (Never touching.)

There’s a small fire keeping the camp warm, but neither of them seems able to sleep. Cara can see Richard resting peacefully and Zedd has been snoring for the longest time. But they are still quiet, hearing each other breaths.

(She fights the urge to lean backwards.
Leather against skin.
To feel Kahlan against her.
She resists).

“I saw…” the woman starts, and Cara tilts her head just a bit to hear her better. “I heard,” she corrects herself; “I heard what you said.”

They are still sitting in silence, heavy and warm, it confuses her. She wants not to say a thing, but in the end, she gives in.

(She always does).

“Good.”

~

It becomes a routine.

Every day, every morning, when the sun stops hiding on the horizon and starts itching their skins, they grab their horses and keep going.

There’s a mission. (So far away).

It includes the four of them.
(It never mentioned them riding side by side, leading.)

It becomes a routine of unsaid promises and compromises made in the blink of an eye.

~

Why?

It’s a simple question, Cara doesn’t stop to think. She never stops to think. It bursts out of her lips, so close to the Confessor's ear.

Silence is around, Richard and Zedd away, Kahlan feet in the water of the river. Cara sitting by her side.

The Mother Confessor looks at her in confusion and she doesn’t need to say a word.

“Why would you forgive me?” She can see as Kahlan’s soft lips form a cute circle of surprise.
“Because I believed you,” she answers after a while.

(There’s silence. And nothing else).

~

Kahlan saves her once.

Cara saves her once.

Kahlan saves her twice.

(And again. And again. And again).

Cara saves her twice.

(And again. And again. And again).

“Are we even now?” Kahlan smiles at her as the man hits the floor, blood on his neck, were Kahlan cut his throat open.
“You bet, Confessor.” Cara smirks back.

~

Richard sits by her side, his ‘you can’t lie to me’ smile on the corner of his lips. It’s strange, feeling the touch of their arms; seems so long ago when they actually shared time. Her eyes search for Kahlan before she can stop herself.

(Peacefully sleeping, so unaware).

“I’m glad you two are getting along.” Richard says. Cara raises an eyebrow, a mental ‘you do?’ forming on her lips, but it never gets to be said aloud. “I knew you’d become friends”

(Do not laugh, she tells herself).

“Who would have thought the Seeker wouldn’t be wrong?” She smiles, and leans, her lips on the border of his jaw line. She thinks it better then, a simple ‘good night, seeker’ on his ear and turns around, covering herself from the night.

(Who wouldn’t have.)
