Notes: Thanks to
eviinsanemonkey for beta-ing it. ♥ This is a weird ficlet (that i'm pretty sure I wrote after 1x09, though, no spoilers really), and it probably doesn't make any sense, so, anyway, hope you like it anyway.
Time doesn’t move in a straight line like most people seem to think, it comes and goes, plays and whirls. Moves forward, backwards, changes opinion, direction, destiny and life. Time is about changing, about coming and going, about searching. Time is what makes us who we are. Eventually, when we finally realize time has come, we choose. We decide who and where we want to be.

Arthur lets himself fall on his bed; pain going through his body, aching, picking and making him annoyingly sore. He watches the ceiling and closes his eyes. Admitting he is tired is not something he is allowed to do and so, he saves it for the loneliness of his chambers. He wonders, half asleep, he wonders if the questions are already there, even if he pretends they are not… blood and lies fighting against morality and truth.
The time will come when the choice is to be made.

Gwen has always found it difficult to contain her feelings. They dance on her face, she can feel them, as if her eyes could scream her thoughts, or her lips had learned to talk by themselves. She plays with her fingers nervously. She is worried and it won’t go unnoticed.
Morgana doesn’t say a thing, she just watches her from the other side of the room. She doesn’t order her maid or question her. It is as if she knows already.
As Gwen goes back to her duties, she realizes that Morgana probably knows more than she does, even if she doesn’t say so. The knot of doubt that comes across her at the thought could have brought her to tears if she had been alone.
The time will come when suspicion will be revealed as truth.

If someone were to ask Morgana what was happening to her maid, she would dismiss it with sweet charming excuses than nobody would care to question. She can smile at Gwen with the knowledge that dreams provide, with the knowledge of events yet to come. She knows Gwen by heart; she can picture her fears, her worries, by only looking in her eyes. But she cannot take those fears away.
The time will come when truth will stand against death.
Or so she hopes.

Uther isn’t able to explain a lot of things. Sometimes he tries, when he is asked, but he has lived enough to know right from wrong. He has learned it the hard way, the one that sows death and grows on black hearts. Everything he can’t explain is ridiculous or shouldn’t even exist. Rules are rules, truth is truth. There are no exceptions, no possible explanation that he doesn’t have. When it comes to his children, both Morgana and Arthur, he is blind. Everything he cannot understand should die.
The time will come when the sacrifices are too great.

There are days when Merlin curses his life in Camelot. Gifted but forbidden to be. It’s a prison with blue sky and a shining sun. Merlin is slow sometimes, and maybe a bit blind. He is not obvious, he cares. He takes Gaius’ advice and uses magic for the greater good… or Arthur, if he were to be completely honest. And though he thinks he hides it well, sometimes he wonders, when he sees their eyes, Arthur, Gwen and even Morgana, if they don’t see it, shining inside him, urgently wanting to be out. The core of his magic is asking permission to be free, with or without them.
The time will come, he knows, when the truth is out. The time will come when his destiny comes alive. Oh, he wishes, he prays, that he will get out of it alive.

Time flows, like the shining water on the river, time makes us be. Time chooses, shows us right, wrong, and that not everything is black and white. And when the time comes, some day, some lonely night, we will finally have to face all the secrets we’d built up, everything we knew but never said.
And only time will know the outcome of the kingdom. Only time will know their fate.
