could it be? obama is going to be our president. i still don't really believe it. like maybe when i wake up in the morning it will turn out that oh just kidding he can't be president because fill in the blank. i didn't realize until he actually was elected that i was convinced it wasn't going to happen. they stole the election the last two times, what was preventing them from doing it again? i Definitely didn't expect him to win by such a huge landslide. obama got more than twice as many electoral votes as mccain! this gives me so much hope for this country. so much more than i had. i didn't think people could do it. my "america" glass just went from half empty to half full. for the first time since i was ten, i am proud of my country.
why am i so happy that he was elected? i never got So in to his campaign that i volunteered or even went to his rallies. i talked about how people had too much faith in him, that people looked to him as the be-all end-all but that he can't answer all of our prayers. i still don't think that he can/will solve all of our nation's problems. but i definitely think that he will try. i don't agree with him on every issue, and i'm scared of some things he may try to do, but i really believe that he has the capacity to listen to the people, and that he will try to serve US, and that maybe WE THE PEOPLE will once more have a say in what happens in our country.
but the best part of all of this, the best thing to come out of this election, in my opinion, is this:
people are so happy.
i was walking up division tonight, past the obama headquarters, etc, and almost everyone i passed was happy and shouting and dancing and said something to me about what a happy night it was and how much we have to look forward to. people honked as they drove by, the shouted out of the windows "healthcare for everyone!!" and we all hollered our support back to them. so many honks, so many shouts, so many fireworks and parties and such a good feeling in the air.
maybe this was what it took to bring our country together. to bring our PEOPLE together.
yes we did.
