Dear X-MEN: FIRST CLASS,
let me start off by saying how incredibly sorry I am that it took me this fucking long to finally watch you. I don't know what I was thinking. Perhaps, after the fiasco that was X3, I was afraid I'd be disappointed. I wasn't, not even close.
(
--- )
Raven, love, you had me at "you're not afraid of me?", all on your side.
- Definitely one of the better characters in the movie. I've come to love movie!Mystique more than her comic counterpart, who was an evil bitch, a lousy mother and even ocasionally a psycho lesbian. First Class Raven goes through so much in this movie that you just feel for her instantly.
Emma Frost? X-Men: First Class, did you just, seriously, introduce me to THE EMMA FROST I HAD IN MY UNVEILED SERIES? DID YOU, SERIOUSLY? OHMIGOD, *swoon*
- Again, I like movie!Emma more than comic!Emma. I suppose I loved the Shaw/Emma dynamic in this movie in a way that I never loved their one dimensional badass 80s comic versions, or Emma's 00's manstealing X-men time. Also January Jones makes one hott Emma Frost.
Erik, the bar scene ["Let's just say I'm a Frankenstein's monster"], the coldness in your eyes, the style and the grace, it's like you're a fallen angel all over again and I'm yours.
- Magneto... ahh, I knew there was a reason why I always a fan of this character even in the comics. He has this aura of awesomeness. He's so willing to go to war for the wrongs of the few and he's the type of character you're supposed to hate, but maaaaaaan, you just want to join him in the darkside and never leave him. (which is why we have Mystique to live our fantasies for us)
Charles Xavier, holy shit, you're a flirt?!
- You have to love this young Charles, who doesn't, I mean cannot know the experiences of others because he's so priviledged himself. He tries his best to help, but he's such an obvious idealist that doesn't really live in this reality. How can a fucking mind reader be so clueless? (I love him despite it) He really does wrong by Mystique by not embracing her for who she is (I don't mean sexually, duh). But McAvoy pulls through this.
Sebastian Shaw, your power intrigues me. It's fascinating, what you can do with it.
- Hello, teh sexy. I'd watch two hours of you and Emma together in bed. Yes I would. Kevin Bacon is as old as hell and still so goddamn perfect! He beats that terrible 80s comic!Shaw with his Steven Seagal looks (I kid you not!) so easily! Too bad I can't write him or her. Also he's an evil Nazi. Like true evil. No wonder why he makes me weak on the knees.
I must say, I've never been into slash, but with you, dear X-Men: First Class, I totally get it.
- I agree. I think it's called BROMANCE. Only Fassbender/McAvoy can pull it off
I suppose the line ["You're beautiful, Hank. Everything you are, you're perfect"] defines Mystique through and through. This is what her endgame always was; it wasn't about revenge, or hate, or loathing the "lesser" beings. It was always, from the beginning to the bitter end, about not having to hide, to be accepted the way she is. I suppose this is what I love about Mystique and it also makes sense why she'd adopt Rogue in the comics. Just like Magneto sees, or could see, himself in Pyro, I suppose Mystique could very well relate to Rogue's situation, right?
- Or comic!book Mystique is just painfully cliché evil in the 80s and they don't actually write things so that they make sense? But if we go further like 90s, 00s later I suppose your reasoning might apply.
What does strike me odd, though, is that considering how willing Mystique was to act against Charles in the other movies, why did she love the man this much (despite her growing affection towards Hank, it's quite obvious she truly loves Charles because he's her family...)? Or rather, how could she go up against him like that in the other movie/s if she'd once loved him like that? Or is that exactly why? Because he never loved her blue form the way she needed someone to love her.
- See? This is why you must write this!

When I was many years younger, before I'd even seen any of the X-Men movies (only one had been released) or read the comics, my friend gave me a prompt. She told me the names of a few characters, told me what they can do and what they're like and she asked me to write a fic, which I suppose was my first fan fic ever. It never got published, though I did get a few chapters written. What's funny is that even though I'd never seen the first movie, I wrote about Mystique being at Charles' side. She'd been evil, for a little while and then come back to him. Now I see it totally could have been.
- Ok, what did I do and why don't I remember this? I demand you post this right away for my eyes only!
Thank you, dear X-Men: First Class, for righting (almost) everything that was wrong in X3, thank you for making the important characters the actual eye candy (Yes, though I love Foster, I still have issues with X3's take on Angel mainly because his whole character was pointless and offered nothing to the plot.) and making those characters unique and lovable and flawed. I love you for that.
- I squeed at the theater, called EH, we gushed about it together for like an hour... yeah, I loved First Class. It is probably my favourite X-men movie yet.
And most of all, I really love you for all the wonderful shipping possibilities you've just given me, both canon and fanon; Charles/Raven, Charles/Moira, Erik/Raven, Erik/Emma, Erik/anyone, Sebastian/Emma, Hank/Raven & all the others of which some are better than the rest.
- My only concern with these is that it's set in the 60s. This entire set up effectively killed my Emma/Shaw fic that I started writing a month ago. BUT I'm sure you can look beyond it and create it something spectacular ;)
So now that you've reported back to your evil overlord: go write fic and make icons!

ANYWAY.

I know, exactly! Okay, never really read the comics the way you have so I wouldn't know, but even though I've always liked movie!Mystique, this movie just made her so much better...

Word! Shaw/Emma was just hot in this freaky, twisted way ["Go fetch me some"] and yeah, also, I thought January was pretty hot. She played the part so nicely!

This!

Yeah, you said it the best!

Kevin Bacon is, as said, TEH SEX. I can't believe how he does it; I mean, he doesn't even get bigger the way Travolta does. It's just... magic!

I must admit, this peeks my interest... I don't know, as for Charles/Raven, would you prefer a post-first class fic, then?
I agree, First Class is the best of these movies. I mean, the first one was awesome, but focused just on Wolverine and Rogue, really. The second one, well, it was good too, but had much more potential and you know the deal with the third. Then again, Wolvie movie, NO ROGUE. So, yeah, even though this one doesn't have her, either, it's got such awesome cast and characters and I really do like the whole plot, too, SO, yeah, the best one. At least I enjoyed it the most, despite any flaws it may have.

First I need some good quality screen caps, dude.
Ah, but seriously, thank you for reminding me to watch this movie!!!!!!
