He is the one who hunts the hunters THE SOLDIER AND THE APPRENTICE by samidha | Dark Angel/Supernatural | Gen, Crossover, R

He is the teller of stories. He is the one who has given his life to the Lady, has risked everything time and again.
First of all, I've never been into SPN/DA crossovers for the simple fact I've never found them to be believable; most of them just don't work and therefore don't appeal to me in any way. But these two fics... oh boy, these two rock (don't take my word, just go read them and you'll see ;)).

---

I read Under the Space Needle first, as it was written before, and it gave me a glimpse of a working SPN/DA crossover world; I was hooked right from the beginning, mostly because of the writing style. Though I've always loved Ben, his character has never aroused my curiosity the way Alec's has, so I wasn't expecting much when I started reading this story. Also, this was told from Sam's point of view so I really was. not. expecting to like it, but from the very first lines, it just had me.

Now, The Soldier and the Apprentice from the same author is possibly my favorite Ben fic, ever, and I don't think this story could have been told through anyone else's eyes to begin with. It's partly the point of view that makes it work. Secondly, I've always thought Dark Angel should have played with Ben's character a bit more (one doesn't get more complicated than that, there was so much more they could have done with him, really), though at the same time, the fact they didn't makes him all mysterious. What I love about this fic is that while it manages to explain, without trying too much, why Ben became the monster we saw in "Pollo Loco", it also manages to combine both series all the while staying true to both fandoms which is near impossible to most. All the characters are so spot-on and for that reason I especially enjoyed the dialogue between Dean and Zacharias, who (I have to say) normally doesn't fall into my fav-category, at all. In this one, he was quite interesting (this is me, in shock).

---

Seriously, though. I can't find the words to express how much I loved these fics. You just HAVE to go read them yourself, so, yeah, go do it now. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
