S... is for SCARLET FEVER...

May 10, 2007 09:55

Aidan ended up getting this horrible rash on Saturday.
We didn't think anything of it.  Thought maybe it was a heat rash.
By Monday morning it had spread from his head to his toes literally and we didn't know what it was.
And he had a high fever of 104.2
We took him to his ped doctor and they ran a culture for strep throat and sent us home w/ an antibiotic.
Tuesday his fever had spiked to 104.8 and we had been giving him his medicine and trying to do everything we could to get his fever down and to try to get him to drink.
So Tuesday night we took him to the ER and they gave him an IV, took blood, and said he was dehydrated and has a virus.
Wednesday.... o_o

So came yesterday, his fever went back up to around 104.5-104.8 and I again was trying everything I could to keep him cool and try my best to keep him hydrated.
Around 2PM, I took his temp again it was 105.3!!!
He was so lethargic and I was so scared I didn't know what to do.  I called my mom and asked her to come down because I wanted to take him to childrens hospital, and I tried to call justin to come home.
Around 2:30PM I was holding Aidan wipeing him down with a cool rag and he started trembling, his eyes rolled into the back of his head, he was trying to cry out mommy but couldnt and he was sweating horribling and had trouble breathing.
I freaked out and started crying telling him to hold on rushing around the house trying to find my phone, because I was in shock and I didn't know what was happening.
I called my mom first and I was crying on the phone asking her what I should do.
Got off the phone called 911.  I wasn't sure how far away my mom was, and then the drive to the childrens hospital he might not of made it.
So I calmed down a bit and called 911.  I called Justin and started crying again on the phone and told him he had to come home right away and we where going to the hospital.

Aidan was still shaking but his eyes weren't rolling back anymore.
I didn't even get a diaper bag together or nothing I just waited for the ambulance to come and get us and when they did I ran out the door pretty much.
They took us here to the local hospital (which I hate).
The nurse that came in first, was a total bitch.
She took Aidan's temp and he started crying and this old bitch had the nerve to say to him "OH CHRIST SAKES STOP CRYING!!!"
and then when she was trying to listen to his breathing he was crying and she said "UM MOM TALK TO HIM SO HE'LL BE QUIET!" (mind u I was talking to him in his ear)
I can't help it that old bitch can't hear.
So I was pissed, and thank god a different nurse came in.
But she was trying to get blood and she ended up blowing two veins and he was SO dehydrated they couldn't find a place to get any blood or start an IV, so a guy came in I guess he was more experienced at it and finally got a spot in aidans foot to start the IV.
They rehydrated him, and when the ped doctor came in and took one look at him he said "HE HAS SCARLET FEVER and an INNER EAR INFECTION"

I was so pissed.
We went to his dr on monday - took a throat culture sent us home
went to the ER TUESDAY night - nothing was wrong w/ him so they say just dehydrated and sent us home
Wednesday - the dr takes one look at him and knew.

But took make my long story short.
We wanted him to stay at a childrens hospital untill this goes away, because even if we try to force fluids on him, we probley wont get as much fluid in him as we need too and he probley will get dehydrated again.

So I have been doing everything they told me too do.
At 8AM this morning I checked his temp again and it's back up to 104.4 (when we left the hospital it was 100.5)
I gave him medicine again, but he isn't doing anything but sleeping and I dont know what to do.
Justin cant come home from work again, so i have to check his temp again in about 10 mins, and if it's still up i'll have to call my mom to come get us and take him to the childrens hospital in Philly because this is crazy, im not going to have something happen to my son because they want to just get paid and send us home when he isnt better.
He wasn't drinking anything at the hospital, and they should have kept him untill he was eating or drinking on his own and i'm literally forcing it down the back of his throat but i know im probley not getting enough fluid in him and all he wants to do is sleep...

God be with me...
