Doodles: Tutorials III: The Revenge of Doodles

Apr 21, 2011 00:22

The final installment of Tutorial Doodles, until I eventually sell out and allow for endless sequels to be produced that continue to drift further and further away from my original vision, alienating the fans and irritating the critics until I am nothing but a pop culture joke, a morality tale and a warning for aspiring creators.
...
Yeah, how about some doodles!

Oh fatalism jokes, will you ever not be funny? (Fatalism: the belief that all events are predetermined and therefore inevitable) (Also, for those of who who haven't read the book, seen the movie, or had people mention his giant blue dong to you, that's Dr Manhattan from Watchmen)

This boat is based on the thought experiment that essentially boils down to "if you have replaced every part of something (in this case a boat) is it still the same thing?" I respond with a resounding "I dunno, whatever." Also, you may notice (as I did, evidenced by that note to the right there) that I cannot draw boats to save my life. Sorry about that.

[Robo-Luciano does not know what it means... to LOVE]
There was a guy named Luciano in my tutorial. One day we were talking about robots and Phil used Luciano as an example when we were talking about being a robot and having free will or something. I know that it is a terrible stereotype to say that robots cannot feel love, and if you are reading this, Robo-Luciano, I am sorry.

This is Batman. I feel there is nothing more that needs to be said about that.

Inception jokes? In my doodles? It's more likely than you think! This didn't start out as an Inception joke, we were just talking about memories, and how they figured into personal identity. So naturally I drew a tiny gremlin stealing thoughts. And then my friend mentioned Inception, so it became a Leonardus dicaprionite because I am just that cool.

This one also came from our class on personal identity, in this case I think we were talking about Frankenstein because he's made up of bits of other people, so who is he, really? Here you see him in quiet repose, puzzling over the nature of his existence, what it really means to be alive, and if he should eat that little girl before she gets cold.

Sort of a follow-up to the Frankenstein one above, this one came about because Phil said I seemed like the sort to be up at three in the morning blogging about how lonely I was. WELL THANKS, PHIL. I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW I WAS ONLY UP TILL LIKE 2, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

'
Best horror movie ever? I think so! This was another personal identity drawing, we were talking about the implications for your identity if you had all your memories transferred into a tea pot, for some reason. This seemed like a viable premise for a horror movie, so I ran with it.

[Classy Jim; Old Man Jim; Hip Hop Jim; Hipster Jim; Skeleton Jim; Intolerant Jim; Zombie Jim; Emo Jim]
We were discussing the use of the apostrophe to indicate whether something is meant to be possessive. It is the difference, Phil told us, between something belonging to Jim, and a multitude of Jims.

And that concludes Tutorial Doodles!
