Author's Notes: I'm ever, ever so sorry, I know I haven't updated this in forever. I'm officially a complete dickmuffin. I hope you can forgive me? Also severely dislike this chapter, so I'm sorry if it's a bit shit. But whatever, enjoy :)

Emily was lying on her bed, staring upwards at the ceiling. She could only picture Naomi, picture the night she found her. It was playing over and over in her mind, and it really wasn't helping her at all.

She glanced at her watch for what must have been the 100th time that day, and finally pulled herself up. Katie would be done with the gift thing or whatever the fuck she was doing. It was Emily's turn to go face everything.

***

Emily thought she knew Naomi quite well now. She knew all sorts of strange little facts, things that she'd never take for granted. She still got a warm feeling in the pit of her stomach when she walked up to Naomi's house and pushed open the door, knowing it wouldn't be locked, knowing no one would be home today. She thought the normality of these things were one of the best things she'd ever feel with Naomi.

But things weren't normal now, were they? Things were all kinds of fucked up right now, and Emily didn't know whether she was capable of fixing things, of fixing her.

The redhead made her way up the stairs, and stopped outside her bedroom.

Relax. she told herself. Katie said she was completely fine. Relax.

Emily knocked on the door quietly.

"Yeah?" she heard Naomi's voice and took it as an invite in.

"Hi," she said timidly, eyeing the blonde on the bed. Naomi raised an unimpressed eyebrow. Something about it reminded Emily of just a few months ago - the cold, closed off Naomi.

"Emily," an unreadable expression settled. Emily chose her words carefully.

"You okay?" And okay, it sounded quite silly, but she really didn't want to come across sympathetic, or pitying. Naomi would hate that. But she still wanted to let Naomi know that she cared (that she had been going out of her mind, hasn't eaten since she saw her in the hospital) and more importantly, she really needed to know if Naomi actually was okay.

Naomi just nodded, because fuck, does she ever want to make things easy? Emily dawdled infront of the bed awkwardly. She felt impossibly small all of a sudden.

She knew they needed to talk about something, anything to stop this awkward silence, but Emily was at a loss for anything to get the ball rolling. Her dark eyes scanned the room desperately for any topic of discussion.

"That's nice." she nodded towards the bright blue box tied with a red ribbon.

"Cook gave it to me." The blonde replied slowly, glancing at Emily to make sure she hadn't overstepped a line. Emily already knew. Cook and Katie had come to her to ask if she'd mind, or something.

"You haven't opened it,"

"I know."

"Why not?" Emily pressed, slightly anxious.

Naomi shrugged and continued to play with a loose thread on her shirt, not making eye-contact. Emily sighed and sat next to her. Whatever. The gift wasn't particularly important anyway.

"We should talk." She finally admitted, watching the blonde's face carefully. Her eyes fell shut for a moment, a pained expression crossing her features, and Emily wondered why.

"What does that mean?" She said darkly, but emotion thickening her voice just enough for Emily to notice.

"Just tell me why you did it." She whispered. Naomi ignored her, falling back on the bed and glaring at the ceiling, blowing a frustrated breath between her lips.

"Emily, look, I don't want to talk about it. It was a stupid, wanky thing. I was tripping, and off my face, and I didn't know, okay?"

Emily sighed, closing her eyes for a moment. She couldn't begin to explain how angry she was. It was like Naomi had taken back all the months they had together.

"Why are you being like this, I thought you were over all this." Emily said between gritted teeth, trying ridiculously hard to stay calm.

"Over what, Emily? I think your mistaking a lot of things for my fucking personality." Naomi's tone was bitter, and it touched the wrong nerve in Emily.

"Over being such a cold, insensitive, bitch!" Emily screamed, turning to face Naomi again, looking her straight in the eyes. A mixture of shock and hurt flashed past the blue eyes staring back, but she still said nothing.

"I want us to fix this." she said quieter, still looking at Naomi, pleading with her eyes, begging for Naomi to just fucking co-operate, or anything, just not this. The steely eyes stared back, blank.

"Right." Emily nodded after a long few minutes. "Is this it, then?" She swallowed hard, tears stinging her eyes. Naomi's eyes were tearing up too, and she looked just like she had the night Emily left her in bed before the Love Ball.

"Emily, don't." She whispered. Emily couldn't say anything. She just shook her head, trying to keep back the tears.

She left.

***

Emily returned home in a state, her mascara running, her hair tangled. It all felt awfully familiar.

She ran upstairs, ignoring her brother's comments about lesbians, ignoring her mother calling after her. She just wanted to collapse onto her bed, and that's exactly what she did. She needed to just sleep, make it all go away, without drugs or alcohol for once.

"What's up, gaylord?" Katie burst in happily, which swiftly changed when she saw the small redhead sniffling on her bed.

"Oh," She crossed the room quickly and sat beside her sister. "What's up, gaylord?" She tried again, softer, putting a gentle hand on Emily's back. Emily sniffed, before starting to sob again.

"Katie, she's being a dick again," She cried, wrapping her arms around the older twin's neck. Katie sighed. When isn't she being a dick? she thought.

"What happened?" Katie stroked Emily's hair, trying to soothe her. Emily took a deep, shaky breath, almost began her story, when a loud bang outside their door made them both look up.

"Awesome!" A young boy's voice drifted through the door.

"JAMES." Katie stormed out, chasing after their little brother and his friend.

Katie came back in, and leaned against the door. Emily briefly wondered what she had done to James, but was distracted by the hesitant look on her sister's face.

"What?" Emily asked watching her twin.

"Can I talk to her?" Katie bit her nails as she asked. Emily just shrugged.

"I don't care." Katie nodded, and picked her coat up from the floor. She turned, walked a few steps, before stopping, and coming back to the door.

"Are you going to be alright if I go?" Emily thought Katie sounded awfully grown up for once. It shocked Emily to see her so in control sometimes. Emily just nodded, wiping away a stray tear roughly.

"Thanks." she called back, and fuck, she was losing her voice. Katie nodded.

"See you."
