Marce had not been expecting any real coherent replies, except perhaps for Candide's excited yapping. She sighed as she glanced from the beagle puppy to the two children standing nearby. "Andrei, in the bath now. Same with you, Alix, bu leave your shoes outside first."
Alix frowned at having been found out. "Shoes come back?" she chirped, sitting down to pull the stained footwear off.
"By Tuesday," Marce said, bending down to help her daughter. "Now go follow your brother." She waited for the little girl to scamper off before following a few steps behind, just to make sure that they wouldn't get in trouble.

Just as she got to the bathroom she heard a knock on the house's front door. "Emil, the door's unlocked!" she shouted. However instead of a familiar tread in the living room, she heard the telltale click of a gun being cocked
